Default Got a stock MRC - now what?

I just picked up a used stock MRC. It looks like the first think I need to do is lose the radio plate. What else should I plan on doing to improve it's crawling?can't spend a bunch on upgades - just looking for tips.
It needs 2 shocks regardless. Can anyone recommend an aftermarket/upgrade shock that is good?

RCBros sells some solid shocks, as does Losi, but the Losi ones are pretty long. I'd also recommend adding weight to the wheels. If you have the money, aluminum lockers will be nice to have as the stock ones will eventually break. And lower all the electronics as low as possible.
