Default Gadge RC>>>Trail Gear Mini scale tube

Well heres the begining of the first mini I've done
....even had to make a smaller chassis jig

This one is being built for NeXt559

He asked me to scale the Trail Gear crawler shown below and the pictures and link he sent me was plenty to go by

NeXt had asked that I lower the roofline a little for a sleeker look.

after the usual volley of p/m's we decided to build a 1/12 scale and stretch it out a bit to fit this small (1:1) size
To make things as easy as possible a got a chassis plate set..set the space between to stock width and to keep suspension as simple as possible, and to add future upgrades just going to stretch the mounting points and lengthen the driveshafts only

the 1:1

after figuring out the size n scale got to work on the plan...
next step, bending material for a shape, ..left long for fit up

after a little fitting the shape is starting to come thru,....along with the size

thanks for looking

copper plated 1/8 round stock if if i remember correctly
i also remember somthing about tig filler wire , but i'm not really too keen on the proper vernacular when when it comes to design and fabrication.
gadge, wanna chime in on this one?

last week i just learned what "parent metal wash" was

for this small of a build...1/12 ,,scale I'm using .125 dia ER70S2 TIG filler wire...its a mild steel filler ..same stuff that one would use to weld 4130 chrome-molly tubing (race car stuff)
.125 x 12 = 1.5" so the tubes are actually the proper scale..also going to have a few pieces of .093 (3/32) wire which scales out to 1.125"
solid rod works great !! good luck kinking it

even keeping the skid plate scale .031" 316 stainless steel plate which scales out to .372 I'd say thats close enough to 3/8"

All I got to say is this thing is small, normally might put a pop can next to the chassis, maybe sit it on a 2.2 wheel/tire but those would dwarf this chassis.

I usually fit up chassis on 1 of my 5 chassis jigs... but this chassis is 1/2 the size of my smallest so I made another 1
,,still want to make few more attachments for jig

more soon..

just a quick doodle of the design of the skid plate from gadge

its going to be made of 16g stainless. i opted out of the mor performance minded UMHW plastic because of the mere asthetic value.
since this is primarily for indoor crawling, rock racing, and somewhat of a "bling build" i only see black and chrome (or polished metal) in this lil rig's future.

pretty sure the TG logo would show up on stainless steel side body panels

could always do the chassis in black and polish the panels...got mothers metal polish
some stainless button head panel mount screws would blend right in
...could make body panel and skid 1 piece but what fun would that be

OOOoooohh Cr...p just made more work for myself didnt I

more pics later today

its later........
sorry for the delay folks....
PICS
in the first comparison photo you can see how the roof is made shorter by laying back the front cage tube. this keeps the bend lines,...uummmmm in line..vertically AND gives a sharper lower roofline

in this view you can see how I gained up travel clearance by extending the lower tube before bending AND also lets me raise the panhard mount

the rear panhard bar mount will also be shortened up to match when width is set...actually think it will clear axle as is though if run out a little as opposed to directly above. Behind it might hang up after a drop off dont want that !!

Yep the wires being used for jig/set up are .035 and I have it so accurate that each wire is bent equally at stock shock mount.
Upper roof line seems to be at an angle in this view,...actually its rocked forward 'caus the stock chassis is hanging out under lower rails

Forget it... your never going to get it...
I wouldn't send it to ya if I were making it.

It looks way to good to just be delivered to the customer that way.
I would however rig one together with some paperclips, duct tape and JB weld for you so you "felt" like you were getting your money's worth tho...

Just my .002

Nah, seriously... its bitchin. You are doing a really good job brazing it all together. This particular tuber almost makes me want to ditch what I got now and get one just like it.... almost

Default no assembly line

never worked on one and never will each one hand made designed 'round what You want I'll never ask someone to accept a copy of one either

I dont see the need to offer a one piece fits all or generic rig
one of the greatest things 'bout this sport is the difference in all the rigs

this way everyone gets a 1 of a kind
we all do everything under the sun to personalize our rigs
why change that fact ?

soundcolor.. the word almost means you had to think 'bout it

crawlinlosi.. P/M on the way...............
