Just from experience (very little) but yes! I just bought a MRC over the weekend, modified it with some bolt ons, chassis, shocks, etc. and immediately busted rear locker. Changed within the hour, and tested a little more (couple minutes) and busted the center. Luckily the front was all ready steel so all I'm doing now is waiting on the LHS to get my center locker this week and I'll be good to go! BTW, I'm not thrashing it, just testing on two small rocks and curbs.

As soon as the front and rear are replaced, the center will go out shortly thereafter.

I drove mine for about 3 months till the f/r went, upgraded to metal there. then ran for another 4-5 months till the center went, all the while running a 17t handwound mini-monster motor with crazy torq and wheelspeed. I say run it till you notice that either the front or rear driveshafts start turning a little delayed from the other, then replace it. If it aint broke dont fix it ya know.

two of my friends have an mrc, and so do i. their front lockers went out within a week. i didnt have any problems with my plastic ones but since they did, i jumped on ebay and ordered front, center and rear metal lockers. i didnt want it to sit on the shelf and wait for them. once i knew my metal lockers were on the way i went to the LHS and picked up some flat irons. my plastics wernt broke yet but i installed the metal ones as soon as i got them!and ebay was cheap! |
