In my opinion flat irons are too tall. I like doing steep climbs and the flat irons brought my cog too high which resulted in more rollovers. I would suggest the chisels. (or rovers. thats just hearsay though, no experience with the rovers) If you do decide on the flat irons cut every other lug out, really improves traction! would also suggest wideners for more stability.

I just picked up a pair of FI and love them they r. Night and day from the claws. With the extra height of them I can crawl over what my friends 2.2 can crawl I have yet to cut the lugs off but they grip very good stock make sure u get the g8 compound

Does anyone have a good picture of how to cut flatirons? I am thinking of giving them a try but I hear the best way to make them comp worthy is with some cutting.

Started with the Flatirons, I love them for the wet, they are great if you set your truck in droop because of the height. It was mentioned about increase in the COG it is true, but in droop it works well. Now I am a bandwagon red dot rover user, the red dot are great!

I've found Flat Irons to be great tires with heaps of traction, that is until they get dirty, then they turn into racing slicks....

On my old 1.9 comp rig I ran flat irons. I drooped it, lowered the body, and widened it. It sat lower than my buddies 1.9 and he had claws on his. | |

I'd get the chisels. That's what I'm gonna get when I upgrade tires. |

| I would go w red dot rovers myself, but each to there own, and possibly several diff types for diff situations. Currently running losi lo profile w/ losi weighted wheels there ok for couch crawling, I too need an upgrade ROVERS baby...

I just got a pair of flatirons and I love them! I must say that most of what has been said I agree with however. 1)They are very tall, but I love that look and if you put enough sag into your setup the cog is great. Not only that but if you flip(and don't have a body on) you can run upside down. 2)They do "fold over on the sides" quite easy, but I find this helpfull for those side crawls in cracks and crevises. You just have to make sure you have good bead locks so that the rims don't spin inside the tire(I did the free bead lock trick found on this site). 3)I haven't cut out any lugs yet. Though I am intrigued. But I did cut down the memory foam by 3/8ths of an inch and that made a big difference! Even when they are dirty. |

If you're going to comp then Rovers are the best 1.9 tire. |
