| Motor Question
I bought a MRC from my buddy. It's pretty built, but still running the stock motor. I of course managed to burn up that motor and I'm trying to figure out what motor to run with my setup. I have the TQ3 radio and stock esc. I don't think I have lipo battery setup. I've searched and found some options, such as the slider, insane, stump puller, mini torquemaster. It's going to be run for long times, so heat will be an issue. Help a newbie out. Pic of rig. |

there will be some heat issues with the slider and the insane but dropping your pinion from a 14tooth(stock) to say a 12 or so will fix that. any of those motors will be a awesome upgrade so go get one! you can run lipo with the stock esc but you have to be careful cuz there is no lipo cutoff. but your stock batteries will do fine for ya. |

Thanks for the thoughts. I've kind of been leaning toward the slider and insane because I'm pretty sure they'll work with the esc and they're cheap. If I do go that route, I'll definately get a 12 tooth. Btw, I looked at the battery once I got home, and I have a Team Orion Supercharge 1600.

If you're heavy on the trigger I'd suggest spending good money, now, rather than possibly buying another replacement motor later. The Torquemaster is a quality motor; it's sold by a very reputable vendor here on the forums; I'd imagine it can also be rebuilt. I run the Stump Puller, which can also be rebuilt. It's nice and has exactly the kind of power I want (though I did step down the pinion gear). A good motor will help with your heavy trigger, but it's going to strain your ESC. It'd be wise of you to start shopping for an ESC that you can grow with (and is Lipo ready, because it's only a matter of time before you go Lipo!). Welcome to RCC. Remember to have fun! |

I noticed today that towerhobbies has the novak micro 18.5t crawler + esc for $92 instead of the average $150. That is about the same price as the holmes torque master mini + new esc. Anyone ever actually tried both? Looking forward to my first comp this weekend at the Mermaid. Hope I don't come in last.
