Default Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster Mini 33 VS 22 turn Motors

I am looking into buying a Holmes Hobbies Torquemaster Mini motor for my scale truck but I am not sure if I should get the 33t or the 22t motor. I am running a stock 7.2 volt Losi battery. The truck is running a L-trail chassis and it weighs 6.5 lbs. I am running 1.9" wheels with Rock Kreeper tires mounted to Pro-Line Titus wheels with the weights installed. I have the stock motor and 14 tooth pinion in it right now and after today's comp I realized I need lots more wheel speed but I also would like a little more torque. I want to here from anyone running either of these motors to get some feedback.

The only thing that would concern me with running the 22 would be how heavy your truck is. The 33 still has much improved wheel speed over stock. I'm sure you'll be happy with either.

If you go with the 33t and you find yourself wanting more wheel speed, just run a 3 cell lipo.

the 33t is what i have and love it. The weight bothers me like everyone else so i say stick with the 33t and like just said run a lipo even a 2 cell will boost your speed from the stock battery.

How much % more wheel speed will I get with the 33t than the stock motor if I use the stock battery?

I would guess 20 or more maybe with the stock ESC. The stocker is around 40t and runs 4000 KV but it falls real quick from what Jon (Holmes Hobbies) said. The torque on his motor is awesome. Might consider getting the silver brushes too. They are much better and last longer. I went to a Sidewinder ESC the same day i swapped motors so maybe someone with stock electronics will chime in or maybe as in the holmes hobbies forum under the tech question thread.

The one thing you may want to take into account is that the 22t is only rated for 2s Lipos so if you want to run a 3s lipo you need to get the 33t and I believe you can only use 3s in 1.9 class now (please correct me if I'm wrong)

No the new rule is you can run up to 3s lipo now. When I first read it I thought that too but got corrected.

You can run either, not just 3s.

I have ran mine for 3 comps now in my flatfender scaler and love it. the torquemaster mini has quite a bit more wheel speed on my 1350 2c lipo and tons of torque. I have to admit though my battery life has gotten shorter per charge. I run mine on a traxxas w/p esc. Now the only trouble Ive had was when I ran it through deep mud and then water, I got grit on my comm and one of my brushes wore down quick. So I have to turn the comm and replace the brushes. My rig weighs about 7lbs.

Thinking of getting this motor for my MRC, what kind of brushes does it use? Are they the same as the 540 motors? Also can this armature fit on a 540 comm lathe?

Thanks.

my understanding is [no] a standard comm lathe wont cut a 380 comm.
there is a lathe made be entigy the xipp perfect 2 lathe
that cuts 180-540 sized comms.

I dont think you can gp wrong with either of the holmes motors.
the 33 will give you more torque and should provide more runtime
but the 22 will give better wheel speed and stll have good torque.
the truck may be heavy, but I didnt know 3s want possible on the 22

i run the 33t and 3s on a mamba micro pro and it has enough juice to flip itself over or ride wheels if you change directions to fast.
