Default Diff problems... AGAIN..

alright, im really getting annoyed by my Diffs.. the Pinion and the sun gear i think its called always clicks and then its back to square one, by going to the LHS...

1.. I've Shimmed the pinion a bit, but no luck, either Binds or not enough..

2.. Greased and properly maintained..

3.. All screws are tight, so no way to make the diff move while in motion..

I dont know what to do now.. since ive already spent close to $50 just replacing the diffs gears.. its just annoying the crap outa me

What can i do??

I move the shim from the outside of the output shaft to the inside, behind the pinion.
Also nut & bolt axle cases together. Don't have any problems until the pinion wears.
And that depends on how much useage and abuse I give it.

I would suggest you check the bearings in the axle housing at the output shaft. There is 2 bearings there,if there is much play then the pinion can move and lose its contact patch. It wouldnt hurt to check all the bearings while you have it opened up. also the diff may have play inside the housing.
with the housing opened up.place the diff in one side at a time and see if it can move/slide side to side any.If the diff has play it can also couse lose of contact surface.

it barely moves, like barely a mm, but i guess its enough to harm it..

grr, but the diff casings are barely old.. maybe 5-10 runs.. in a span of like 5 months?

After doing the nut and bolt trick I have not had any more problems. Once you have upgraded electronics you need to add the nut to make sure the housing doesnt flex. You can also make your slipper a little looser so it will go easy on them.

Replace your diff. pinion. It might not look wore out, but that is your problem. Once you pull it out, take a good look at it, you will see what I am saying.

most likely is a simple fix.. just dont run your crawler anymore till you fix it or else you may need to buy another set of diff gears which are running at a high price..
