Default Gear cover question

Hey so I got my GC-3 chassis, and I noticed in the install instructions that the transmission cover, (I think... Its the cover that is over the motor shaft gear and the big plastic gear with the slip adjustment) has been removed. And I have noticed that a lot of peoples builds show the same part removed.

Whats the advantage to this? Is it just for simple adjustment access to the slip?

Also if I leave it on will the GC-3 build still fit?

I would rather keep it on to keep it clean. I can't imagine it takes much dirt or sand on that plastic gear to start inducing wear and ruin the mesh of the gears.

trans will not fit with cover on (in a GC-3).
No worries without it though. Save a few gram of weight!

It is posible to cut the cover enough to make it fir a gC-3 but do need, just remove it. I never run covers anyway - easy access to pinion and motor screws.

Just make sure all wires are tied away from the spur gear.

The trans will too fit. You have to shave the cover down a little where it touches the chassis. I drive my MRC at the river and there's all kinds of crap that gets into it so I chose to keep the cover on.
