Default splined pinion shaft on brood anarchy motor??

So whats the deal with the splined shaft on the brood anarchy motor. Do I need to grind a flat into the shaft for the grub or can you just loctite the grub and tighten it into the splines. I am just used to seeing a flat in the pinion shaft on all the other motors I have dealt with. Thanks

eddieo at brood pm'd me, apparently you don't need to do anything special, the grub bites in well enough he said.

Some set ups like the HPI Micro RS4 used plastic pinions and the splines held the gear onto the motor shaft. This was using the same size motors.

so now my issue is that my losi mini pinions don't work with this motor. EddieO said robinson racing and integy make pinions that will work but I have seen conflicting specs on the pitch, some say 48p and some say 0.05 mod, so I am a little stuck at the moment. From the way the spur lines up with the shaft it appears the grub would have to be in the area the spur would be contacting the pinion. I'm sure I will figure it out at some point.

so i got a Robinson Racing 12t pinion today at my lhs (35mi. away) .05 mod is the correct pitch. The pinion was for a rc18. So that part is great, problem is the shaft is still too short, the grub barely catches the end of the shaft, the teeth on the spur almost hit the grub and only half the pinion is supported so when the grub is tightened it pushes the pinion sideways so it wobbles as it spins. I have two packs through it with it being like that, it works, just bothers me. I have read about people using a motor spacer but in this case I dont see how that would help me.

Use the spacers between the motor and the motor plate then you can put the pinion on with the grub screw next to the motor plate or in between the spur and the plate.

ya eddieo just pm'd me saying the same thing, I will prob have to hog out the motor plate to clear the pinion though. Really was not anticipating this much jimmy dicking to get everything to work properly. Oh well. thanks for replying AreCee

I've seen that too, what I'm wondering is about using their billet motor plate? It is beautiful and much thicker that stock. Would that work too so you dont have to dick with an adapter plate?

not sure, I could contact don to see... but at this point I'm not sold on the brood motor, put my clapped out losi insane motor back in, upped the pinion to 14 from 12 and the wheel speed is equal to the brood but has way better drag brake, and more torque. Kind of feel like I wasted my hard earned money.

That's weird. My anarchy motor shaft was smooth and I ground a flat into it for the grub to sit on.

who knows, I'm sure brood gets different cans to tear down and rebuild if thats the way they do it or just different vendors for the motor parts.
