| Speed Control Help
Okay, so I'm sure it's been asked before, but I'm going to ask again anyway. Background: was getting my MRC back into running status the other night and while installing a stock ESC, I managed to reverse the polarity of the wires to the battery....POOF! End of that ESC. Sucks, too, because I'd already spent about 2.5 hours trying to get it all put back together and solder the tiny motor leads onto the ones coming form the ESC. I suck at soldering, especially smaller gauge wire. So now I'm in need of an ESC. Trying to decide between a B1R and a Sidewinder Micro. Seems I can probably get the Sidewinder a little cheaper from Holmes if they really do have them in stock. Website shows the B1R to be Out Of Stock, so no luck there. Everywhere else they're about $15-$20 higher than Holmes, which isn't completely off the table. So looking at paying $55-$65 for a B1R or $45 for a Sidewinder Micro @ Holmes as long as he has them in stock. Currently running a Reedy 19T Stump Puller on 2s and for now it's fine, but eventually I'll probably jump to brushless. Which ESC would you guys pick and why? |

I think you would have fried the stock esc with that puller soon enough. I have a HH mini torque master and was running 2s through the stock esc and it would go into shutdown especially when trying to crawl slowly over something. Ive upgraded to the sidewinder micro. It will run brush or brushless and go 3s if i need too. Programmable with the castle kink. After setting it up i cant see myself really programing it much going forward. Im happy

Well....lots of feedback here I see. Thanks for the advice, tootall. Ended up ordering a Sidewinder Micro and should have it Friday evening. Gotta' love Amazon Prime....Free 2-Day Shipping! Could've had it tomorrow for another $4, but I'm on-call so likely won't get a chance to wire it up anyway.

Sidewinder Micro is your only option there. I would have suggested maybe a Eiger like mine(does brushed and brushless and even sensored) but not sure of the price, it was given to me from a friend who upgraded to Tekin RS Gen2.

And too, I made myself go back a few minutes ago and read some of the build threads I sub'd last year and seems everyone was pretty well hung up on the Sidewinder Micro, so again, I feel like I made the right decision. Could've gotten a used FXR for another $12 shipped, but I already have a Castle Link and I like the small footprint of the Micro. So...we'll see. Now what can I get next for my MRC.......have my eye on those brass knuckles that Eve and Calvin are workin' on.

B1 is the non-reverse ESC, B1R has reverse If you'd have bought a B1 you'd be in for a big surprise, LOL (well not so bad for competitions since you can't use reverse but still..) |
