Mine showed up from Tower today, have to say it was super exciting opening the box, felt like a little kid! Photos really don't do this justice, they really did do a good job, and if my buddy didn't just pick one up, I'd probably keep the digger body for a while, it looks great. Chassis looks great, the green is actually nice for me (my favorite color) Promptly ripped out that tactic, and threw in a Futaba RX for my 4px, set my end points, and moved the clip in the AE-5 to 50% drag brake (it's set to 100% out of the box) Outside shot Next to the Bomber for scale... And time to tear it apart.... Initial impressions, would be a great rig for the younger crowd right out of the box. Plenty of power on 3s for a novice driver and it handles pretty well. I really think if you could keep off the reverse to forward wheelies it would last a good while in stock form. I'm pretty sure it's very under geared and that's probably why there is a 16t pinion in the box. Proportions in person are a lot better than the pictures show, and I'm not as eager to go throw clod sized tires at it yet. That being said, if this is not your first RC, and you have had a axial vehicle with a brushless in it, you will find it to be a little underpowered. No worries as I expected that and already had that pile of goodies on deck ready to go. |

If you want to lower the ride height in the front there are holes on each side about 1/2 in up. You can place the upper shocks mounts there. In the rear there is another screw about 1/2 inch up just pull that screw out and replace it with a longer one. It should handle alot better and best of all ..... no $$$ spent.

These are super tempting. It's getting harder and harder not to order one. I'm intentionally staying away from my hobby shop because if there's one on the shelf it's coming home with me. Are you changing the body then? What's the plan?

I am changing the body. I had a HPI MX1 body here, but it looks a little short. I did order a yeti/raptor I want to see how that measures up. Or even the HPI mini trophy body

So a more go-fast style modern body. That should be awesome. Dodge Powerwagon SCX10 body big enough? I can't judge the scale of these since I've never seen one in person.

See the guy making the scale hubs for the wheels yet? They just make the wheels look right. |

Well now that the new truck smell wore off... I won't be needing this stuff.. Hot Racing steel gears Replaced the plastic bushing with a bearing and gave the plates a quick scuff. Castle 3800kv 4 pole motor. I'm also replacing screws with stainless as I go. I have to say, Axial has really stepped up their game, each new rig gets easier and easier to wrench on, it's only 8 screws to drop the skid. Which is keyed onto the chassis to make reassembly easier. And access to the interior area was a quick 4 screws. |

Looking like a good start there. I gotta say, I'm totally happy with my SMT10. Axial did a awesome job on it, gonna add some Clod size tires, like Destroyers or the new JConcepts tires when they are released and a faster power system. The only thing I don't like is the ESC in this truck, it works great on the crawlers, but on this, you don't want or need drag brake. If you take the pin out completely, you have no drag brake, but you don't have brakes either, the truck just goes right into reverse. How do you like it with that Sidewinder SCT system? I was looking at that for mine as well, or the MMP SCT Race Pro system. |

For $100 on the Sidewinder set its hard to beat really. I have it on my mud truck and love it. Also have a kit in my Score, and its a freaking blast on 3S. |

The first thing I did when I opened this truck was move that pin for the drag brake to the 50% it was more than good for a RTR truck. Heck I'm gonna keep it and throw it in something else anyway, maybe a tamiya M chassis or a scaler for my girl. Exactly

Yeah, I'll keep the AE-5 as well, I run them in my CC-01's and other stuff. The Sidewinder SCT system is hard to beat for the price for sure.

I think I decided since I have it I am going use the mamba max instead of the sidewinder. Looks like they have changed their recommendations since I bought my sct setup. And I don't want to push my luck if I don't have too... Last edited by XSRCdesign; 08-10-2016 at 07:14 PM. |

Yeah, that might be a good idea. I think they changed some stuff, that's why I was looking at the MMP SCT Race Pro setup myself. Not sure if the SW will hold up on this truck, especially after I added bigger tires. I'd rather have a little overkill, than to be marginal.

XSRCdesign, I like where this is going. Better step up ESC and motor like you said, tires are large and heavier. Clod sized tires might look little too big on here after all.

I ended up throwing the Mamba/3800 in took it for a test run with a 12 tooth pinion. Plenty of power... Plenty enough to start twisting driveshafts. |

Front sway and futaba servo You can see I started replacing screws with stainless. I also removed the anodizing from a pair of axial diff covers I have here |
