I should have got beef tubes when I did the build. They were the Dlux big bearing housings. I also wasn't expecting to have the urge to go until it broke lol. I must watch too much monster jam.

| Re: Rjohns SMT10 What don't you like about them? On something like an MT or U4 they're fine since you don't need 70* turning. I have one on the front of my beater/MT and it limits the steering angle of the VP knuckles. I didn't like it on my bouncer for the steering limits.

I know they are fine for that and I'm going to use them on my PRT but I really don't like the way they look or the fit of them. I do like where the servo is mounted though.

You run those stupid shovels under the diff and you complain about the looks of the trusses? The U4 truss I have needed a bit of clearance work around the link mounts due to the ends not being flush with the C hubs but having a gap unless washers were stacked under the ends. My truss is a G10 version so it flexed down with the C hub screws tightened down. I don't see that being an option with aluminum like you have so spacers are a must. That would annoy me too. |

Lol. I haven't run them yet. I had them so I threw them on. Probably not going to stay there.

Just a quick run in the back yard to run out the battery. Needs to be a little faster so I'm going up 2 teeth on the pinion to see how it goes. I'll post up some jumping in the next one. This thing is pretty fun though. https://youtu.be/vg8CaSbx7OU |

Went from a 13t pinion to a 17t and hot damn! Maybe should have used a 15 or 16t but everything is staying nice and cool so...... overkill it is.

The truck looks good! I haven't taken mine out in the snow yet. Snow kills bearings and rusts everything and I still like my Grave Digger too much to beat on it at this point. |

That doesn't bother me at all. My Avid bearings seem to hold up well. I've been running my wraith for years in snow/water and have never taken it apart to inspect or repair. Hopefully I get lucky with this one as well.

Not sure I said it or not but when I built the axles this time I installed Vanquish VXD's in the front, chromoly rear shafts, scale knuckles, locking chubs and rear lockouts, an HR aluminum servo saver and full array of Avid bearings. I still have UD gears front and rear. After going the 17t pinion I noticed that everything runs smoother and cooler. Push it harder and you shall be rewarded. If you haven't tried a Team Brood Vigor 550 you should. I got lucky and got some 3600kv that were sent to him by accident and they are awesome. Hopefully he orders more of the higher kv.

Just installed my Vigor 540 in my Homebrew wroncho, tested it in the garage only so far. Good looking SMT! Really ripping it in the snow. Last edited by calcagno45; 02-23-2017 at 08:51 AM. |

As soon as I can get someone to hold the camera I'll get something a little more exciting up.

Why lock monster truck axles? First time I've seen lockers used in a monster truck build. Completely understand it for anything 4wd related, but kills turning ability?

Agreed. I had no problem on grass or dirt with them locked. Pavement was the only time I lost steering. I unlocked the front with an aluminum hr housing and HPI gears with Dlux universals.
