Default Gearing, speed aim smt10

I have a tekin roc 2300kv that Im going to put in my smt10 build. Will be running pl destroyers for tyres. I will start with 3s lipo and I would like to know what speed you guys gear your smt10s for? I think I've read 40mph somewhere but that's sound really fast. I'd say 30- ish max but I'm really not sure.

30 is going to be pretty fast as well and also difficult to get to with a 2300. Start with a 16t pinion and check temps. Keep it under 180.

2300kV is a low speed motor for the SMT10 in my opinion. I'm using a 3900kV, 4-pole, 540 motor. Most guys are using somewhere between 3800kV and 5600kV. I think 5600kV is ludicrous. My truck with 3900kV motor on 3S is about as fast as I'd ever want a monster truck to be and I'd honestly call it too fast. MT racers might disagree, but my SMT10 Grave Digger is not low slung like a racer.

With the ROC motor you might be able to gear it higher since it has so much freaking torque, but I'm not sure about that and I can't give you a good baseline on such a low kV. Unless somebody has experience, your best bet is to start stock and keep a close eye on temperature and then start gearing up, again keeping a close eye on motor temperature, until you get the speed you would like.

I see your point guys. I also thought that such speed seemed high comparing to savages and such.

The 2300 can be run on 4s to. I know it's low kv but it's what I have right now.

It's worth a shot since you have it and I assume RC parts aren't cheap where you live.

If one would by a Tekin pro4, what kv would you guys pick? A 4300-4600ish on 2s or would I better of going lower kv and 3s?

I am buying 2 x 2s lipos for my savage flux. I could use one of these 2s batteries to run the smt10 as well.

You could run the 4300 since it's the fastest HD they make but make sure you buy very good batteries and a strong ESC. It pulls a ton of amps and will over power a lot of them. I personally run 3s on most of my stuff with roughly 3500 550's and have been happy so far. 4s on an 1850HD or like you said before the 2300 would be a good fit as well. The higher voltage helps reduce the amp draw and takes it a little easier on the ESC and batteries.

I think I will start by using the 2300kv tekin I have. But it's nice to explore options. At least I will know better what I want after testing with it.
