When do we start building the FOFF rigs? After I had seen Benders post with video in the FOFF section, and the more I look at the pile of parts I have......This is starting to seem like a good idea!!!! Im pretty sure we have enough sand around here. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pXCotcuBIME |

We were actually debating on selling the Slash 4x4s and getting a couple Wraiths. This FOFF thing would be a blast when we go to Silver Lake in the summer. |

Actually,,, the 4x4 slashes w/ vxl brushless would be a killer platform to build a FOFF with some killer paddles and the right body!! Wondering if a cut rubicon would fit??

| I have paddles for the rear end, took them up there last summer, was a blast. Sand wreaks havoc with the plastic gears, though.

The more I think about it, the more I see it working. You'd have to do something with the tub, collects sand like mad. Switch to metal gears, 4S, sits low, not very "scale", but it would throw some roost. Hmmmm.....

Slash 4x4: WB 12.75" Track 11.65" Wraith: WB 13.5" Track 11.6" Honcho: WB 12.3" Track 9" As far as a tray cover, I have an Outerwear one and it helps, but you know sand, no matter what you do. I would go to all metal gears, and probably remove material from the underside of the spur gear to allow the sand to come out. I even thought of channeling out the bottom of the driveshaft tunnel in increments to allow the same. The only concern I would have is width with the tub chassis. You have to account for battery placement, it would have to be on the side, and if you narrowed a body not sure of the fitment. The other thing is you cannot adjust your wheelbase without doing something custom. I thought about a longer chassis, even was thinking of how to mount the front and rear assemblies onto a cut down SCX frame. I even went so far as thinking of how to put the assemblies on the frame, run an Axial transmission and run driveshafts to the Traxxas diff. The more I think about that option, I like the idea of it, but would take some fabrication for sure. You can bet your ass that I'll be taking measurements when I get home tonight, though! I'm still getting the rigs ready for Saturday! Why does it always come down to "can I" rather than "should I"? |
