Default Micro Scale Mercedes G-Wagon

I was watching the Losi Micro Crawler now for a while, but had "no use" for it yet. But when I saw a scale chassis for this crawler, I had an idea: I could make a Micro G-Wagon! With scaling being easy in CAD, I checked what can be done, and if it even will work.

Here is a pic of the chassis:

And here were the results of the CAD work, combined with pictures and data from the Losi site:

The pictures were "streched" by 20% to get a longer wheelbase. The frame makes a maximum of 120mm, which equals a scale of 1:20. So I scaled the body by that factor. Now the body will be 83mm wide, with the crawler being 86mm. So everything seem to work out here!

At least as long until I have the idea to make a scale chassis as well.....

Are you going to fabricate your own G-Wagen body? I've got one of those 1/18 scale G-Wagen bodies by Nikko that I was going to start with, but the wheelbase is 160mm - almost exactly between the wheelbase of the micro and mini crawlers. What to do....

Actually I don't know the Nikko body, at least not the 1/18 scale, just the larger. But I assume this is the G463 as well, meaning the newer version of the G-Wagons. That I do not like! I have the old one (G460) SWB in real, so this is what I want as well.

So yes, I assume this will be getting my own body! Maybe tomorrow we will know more if my idea is working (some may have guessed it, yes, printing is the idea....)

Hallo Kreison. Sieht klasse aus! Muss ich mal nach Dickie suchen in der Bucht.
Now back to english. Need to check the bay for Dickie. But only after I have seen what my printer has done through the night....tomorrow....

OK, here we are. The printer worked a little, and I am meaning that. When I had the parts done, I was a little surprised of the size. Even with knowing the size its appearing a bit small, with all the large parts I was doing for the large vehicle.

The quality is not too well due to the lack of a fine resolution of the printer, but here you can see for yourself:

As a comparison of its size I placed the front bumper of the large truck on the side!

And here were two shots with the frame I intend to use:

Looks like it could work! Now the Micro Crawler has to arrive, then I can go on!

Well, the printer does not cut, but print from ABS. That was discussed im my other building thread already. The chassis is from customcuts.de. I bought that off of epay.

Yes indeed. With this frame I can realize a wheelbase of 120mm, which is what my body was designed for. Now I just have to find a solution how to mount the body, but at first I have to wait until my Micro Crawler arrives, so I can complete the chassis!

Default Micro Scale Mercedes G Wagon

Get the Micro....the Xmods are toys at best, if youre looking for an on-road in that size then check out the Kyosho Mini-Z racers....quite a bit more money but a true Hobby R/C in scale

The Micro Crawler arrived today. After a short run on the dinner table to test it, it was immediately disassembeled. Unfortunately I did not complete the build of the scale chassis. Due to the 120mm wheelbase I need, I have to make some parts longer, which I will not do today....
And I have to find a solution how to mount the body.

Now for the fun of it I took some first shots, to have an idea of the outcome. Which looks promising, I think:

OK, here is another update. The drive shafts were elongated (?) with some aluminum tubing, adapted to the wheelbase of 120mm. The arms that were needed for this wheelbase, you may guess it from the color of the pieces were printed this afternoon. Without the servo (that was out for the soldering of a longer cable) all in all it looked like this:

And since the printer was running anyway, I printed some wheels as well. In the pictures the details of the wheels were not really visible, but I guess Daniel will be happy anyway!

At the moment I have no idea if these wheels will be done in aluminum at all, future will tell!

One set of rims were done yet. "just" printed, so somewhat rough, but in silver color as they were yet, I like them much better than the originals!

Just mounted the fresh painted bumpers. Now its getting complete, slowly...

Its about time to take further care of the body, do all the finishing, and put on the color....
