Default 1/20 Toyota

Here is my 1/20 Toyota build. I got the model kit on ebay for $5 because the cab and a few other parts were broken. I completed the build before posting the thread because I knew it was going to take me awhile to finish. I think I have around 20 hours designing and 10 hours building over about 3 months. The center skid plate, shock mounts, battery plate and steering bracket are made from 1/16" steel (bottom plate from an old set of rabbit ears). The steering took the longest to work out but I think the result was worth it, very clean and hardly any bump steer. Let me know what you guys think or if you have any questions. I like to take pics so click on the 1st pic and there is a link to all the pics on photobucket.

Let's see it all under the hood, man!

She looks good. Must have felt good to get this project done. Do you wheel with those flashy tires or are those just for pics?

(*your pictures are a little big [I'm looking at a 20" screen]. 900 on the long side is usually more than enough for most folks.)

looks awesome with the losi wheels/tires. !!! i've been looking for drivers/passengers like crazy.
I'm working on lights for mine(s) right now as well.
IMO You should shave down your leds in the bumper to flush up with the housing.

great truck!!!

why didnt you put this in scale?

Murdock in my experience if you cut an led it won't be as bright and it makes it a flood light instead of a spot light. I have cut them down before and even polished it but it was not near as bright. The length and round tip focus the light. Let me know if you get different results. I did shave down the head lights and marker lights so they would fit.

Can a moderator move this to the scale micro section? Thanks

for my head lights i just used 3mm leds instead of 5/6mm.

shaving them is just a trick i read on here a while back .

The Body and chassis are from a 1/20 Lindberg plastic model kit that is getting hard to find, maybe a couple left on ebay. The electronics, motor, trans, axles, suspension and wheels are from the Losi Micro Crawler. To biuld it the way I did it took alot of modification. I have some build pics on photobucket. Her are some pics on the rocks.

Man you and murdock have nice Toyotas, can't wait to start mine. Can you post some nody off shots? I got a Baywatch kit off ebay a couple months ago but lost the chrome, I have another one on the way. Hmmmm, Extra cab or crewcab? I doubt either, I'm too lazy and I just started a 1/10 Bronco scale build.

*edit*-Nevermind, I read your first post and clicked the picture.

Hey,

your Toyota really looks awesome. I love it

Am I right that the Lindberg baywatch Truck has the same Toyota body? I am not sure but it seems to be the same one.

chevyluv the wheels and tires are from the model kit and they were easy to mod for a perfect fit (1st pic on my photobucket link). They are fun if you like to spin the tires and don't have any challenging terrain.

eh bumbai the link are 2-56 all thread,1/8" aluminum tube and Micro T rod ends same as most use.

murdock the leds are wired to the battery plug on the esc. All the lights are wired in groups of 2 in series and the 6 groups are wired in parallel. The battery is 7.4 volts and the white lights are rated for 3.5 volts so it works out good. The yellow marker and tail lights have resistors. If you need more details let me know.
