I've been working on building a cage for my new Micro Crawler. The project is actually quite a bit farther along than these few pictures show, but I haven't posted anything up before this due to my slow progress. I also wanted to see how my ideas materialized before putting anything up for commentary The truck will have a Lindberg S-10 body in future photos... http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3206.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3207.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3208.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3209.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3211.jpg |

That looks really good! That thing is going to be awesome for sure. whats your method of keeping the heat away from the other joints when soldering the tubes together? I've been planning a tube chassis build for a while and was just curious..

With brass, the heat issue didn't seem to bad. I've done a little steel brake line brazing before and had a lot of trouble with the heat traveling though. I started out using my Team Checkpoint soldering iron for this, but then I tried a $10 butane micro torch I picked up at Ace Hardware, and it actually seems to do a better job. I also started out using rosin core 60/40 electrical solder and soldering flux, but gave that up in favor of some lead-free silver based metal working solder I picked up at Home Depot (the electrical solder melted quicker, but the flux was a mess for me and I didn't like the idea of breathing in all that lead).

| 10-6-10 Update
Thanks for the compliments guys! As I said before, I'm actually quite a bit farther along than the first pics showed. I still need/want to: -Make some sort of light bar (I already have LEDs in the headlights, but want to had lights up top) -Add some sort of external tail lights possibly -I need to redo my links -Get an extra wheel and tire for the spare -Maybe mount up my RC4WD Rock Crushers (not sure if I like the stockers or the crushers better) -Pick up some minor hardware for my link mounts on the axles -...I'm sure I'll think of plenty more later! Anyway, here's a few more pics of where she's at now: http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3216.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3218.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3221.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3222.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3223.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3224.jpg http://i444.photobucket.com/albums/q...r/IMG_3225.jpg |

Thanks! I'm thinking of maybe picking up some Miniqlo tires in the future.

Looks cool redmike .... How heavy is it...???? Bigger wheels would def make it look much sweeter . Are you running a lipo....? I have found the lipo's to be a massiive improvement on run time and wheel speed ... Cheers mate |

514 grams I'm running a Dynamite 180MAH lipo, and when I use my tc-1030 to charge it I get a little more than 10 minutes run time (significantly less if I use the silly losi AA portable charger). I'd definitely like to go with the Miniqlo tires, but since I need 5 tires / 3 sets, it'll cost me about $35 or so to change over. |

I ended up picking this up when it was FS, couldn't resist the price Right now its sitting on weighted Hot Racing beadlocks with Baja claws and its a HEAVY SOB. I am going to do chevy55s bombproof axle mod and a 130 can big block on it |

I havent ordered the parts for the axles yet, but I may go with one of my outrunners instead of the 130 brushed big block. I have 2 of the 5g hexitronics but I also have a 3000kv outrunner thats about the size of a 130 motor and uses the same pinions. Its a little bigger but should handle a 3s Lipo instead of the 2s like the 5g. I Just need to figure out a new motor plate | |

Here you go, The only problem I have with this mod is the shafts are overkill. they are so thick they kill any scale look, but its the only option Ive seen for anything stronger. Hopefully we will come across some thinner shafts with metal yokes & U joints http://www.scale4x4rc.org/forums/sho...5&postcount=15 |
