Default Problem with Sumo crawler - front not turning

I just got a brand new Sumo crawler. The problem is that the front wheels are not turning. I get power to them (front and reverse) but no left and right function. The front hub (or whatever it is called) is making constant noise like it is trying to turn but wheels do not move. When I turn the crawler and receiver off for a while and then turn them back on, the wheels work for couple of seconds and then stop.

Anything I could check before sending the crawler back?

There is a switch on the transmitter to change the steering modes , maybe you just need to cycle the switch and it will work. Mine has performed flawlessly but there's also the possibility that your servo or other electronics are the problem. Please let us know if you figure it out as it may help someone else troubleshoot a problem later.

It is not the switch. The rear wheels work fine but the front ones just make noise when trying to turn. This is regardless of which steering mode the TX is on. I will try to contact Redcat today to see if they can help me out.

sounds like the servo is gone. I would try to swap the servos around on the esc(front servo to rear output and vice versa). If the servo stil wont work then its the servo. If the front starts working and the rear does not then its going to be the esc/rc combo.

Are those the two plugs that go into the ESC/RC on the top? Can I just swap those to check what you are recommending?

That's exactly what he's talking about. Just swap the two black plugs on the ESC. If it's the servo, it's an easy fix, and also something you would want to replace eventually anyway. I blew both of mine really quick messing around with a losi transmission and Danally stroker! Doing donuts, and drifting on hardwood floors kills them quick!

I swapped the wires and the rear still works but the front one doesn't. I guess it is the servo then. I am going to see if Redcat is going to send me a replacement one. As an upgrade, are there any other plug and play servos that I could buy on my own that are more heavy duty?

Update: After contacting Redcat, they are going to send me a replacement servo under warranty at no cost to me. Pretty good customer service.

Still would like to know what are other servos I could get as a replacement. Something that requires no to minimal mods to the chassis. Plug and play preferred though.

I think the tower pro mg90 will work but I'm going by my memory here so you should probably check it out before buying.

Thanks. I will look into the servo you have mentioned.

In the meantime, can I disconnect the failed servo and have some 2wd steering fun or that is going to put stress on the ESC?

It won't hurt anything to run it with just two wheel steering. You already have that option as one of the steering modes on the radio anyway.

Do they fit without any modifications? I am new to the RC scene so I would need something that's plug and play as a replacement.
