I guess I did not mention on this thread that I'm using a Savox servo. Is that what you mean?

What size/RPM motors is everyone using on these dual motor setups?

The motors are N20 and have gear heads on them. 300 RPMs nice and controllable at crawl speeds.

With this setup, has anyone tried running a 300rpm up front and a slower (maybe 200rpm) in the back for 1/24 overdrive/ underdrive?

Dont take this the wrong way, my friend, but you dont seem to understand what four whel drive is. What you are suggesting is impossible.

Those of you who have done this swap, did you just reuse the motor wire plug or did you buy a new one? I'd rather not cut the plug off the stock motor just in case I want to reuse this motor. If you bought a new plug, where did you get it? I can't seem to find one.

Thanks in advance.

I always un-solder the wires off a motor for re-use. Never cut. Also you have to connect the two motors together by soldering anyway so soldering the stock motor wires back on is all part of the setup.

I dont see this as impossible at all, each motor has its own gearbox (I assume).

Or are they connected?

Do you mind elaborating Shape Shifter?

Let me clarify my above statement - These motors are direct drive, one motor goes to the front axle and the other motor goes to the rear axle. This replaces the stock transmission. What you are suggesting would require two separate transfer-cases, one for each motor.

These axles do not freewheel when connected to the motor gearhead via drveshft. So even if you disco one motor to go only 2 wheel drive, you would be draggin the other two locked tires.

Is there a right way to take it? Then again, maybe I don’t understand 4wd. I assumed that with this tranny, the motor for each axle (each with it’s own motor-attached, dedicated gearbox) were independent from each other. Because it uses motors with reduction gears on them, I didn’t know if they shared a common gear within the transmission. If they do not, it would be plausible to run a higher RPM motor for the front axle which would make it spin faster than the rear axle. This is overdrive/ underdrive. I realize it would be full-time and not controllable.
I have done this on a 1/24 ECX build using a Barrage axle in the front, and a much slower 1/24 Temper axle (worm gear driven) in the rear. It does work, and it climbs obstacles well but the disparity is too great. It’s about a 6:1 ratio. I believe the common acceptable amount is 30%. Here is a picture of that build so you don’t accuse me of not understanding why it wouldn’t work.

I still dont understand what Shape Shifter is trying to say regarding this not working. He's said they're both separate, one motor for the front one for the rear. It sounds to me like this would absolutely work. This would be just like an MOA setup in that it has separate motors for each axle.

I apologize. Your low post count (at the time of your original question) made me think you were a noob. Ive never considered doing that in a micro so my brain did not even think of it in the context of that awesome green rig you built.

So, to respond to your original question, now knowing your modelling skills are above noob level , I can say that the little N20 gearmotors do come with several different ratios, though you would need to do some searching to see if they are withing your desired differential percentage.

Have you looked at the Orlandoo motors? They have two different ratio gearmotors for the 1/35 trucks. They will drop right in to this double tranny and may be close enough together ratio wise.

Again, I apologize for sounding like a dik..

Haha, thank you! I have so many 1/24 projects going, I don’t know why I don’t post more. Those gearmotors are so cheap I ordered a bunch of different ones to experiment with. Thanks for the Orlandoo advice! I’ll definitely have to give that a shot too.
By the way, that chain-drive rig you built is one of the coolest builds I’ve seen. I love creativity like that.
