1/24 HobbyPlus CR-24 & new 1/18th scale!!

https://www.asiatees.com/article?Hob...er-RTR&id=3219

Looks like another rig based off the ECX Barrage/RGT Adventurer/FTX Outback
Nice looking tires and wheels, and they kept the ladder frame chassis (cough cough carisma)
The pumpkin on the axles looks nice, but I'm curious to see if it gets caught on rocks.
The electronics seem similar to Carisma or what the Barrage had,but the controller has a channel 3 button so who knows.

I guess you didn't actually read the post or check the link out? Lol
Like I said It looks mostly based on the ECX barrage/ftx/rgt. So likely it has the same plastic gears just like almost all the other micro crawlers have. Other than the metal diff gears on the RC4WD.
no spare parts aren't available because it's not even released yet. However once it is released because it's from Asia Tee's I'm sure they will have plenty of spare parts, which all should be cross compatible with the ECX as well

I did read the post I'm not familiar with ECX trucks. Ive never owned one. I guess I figured I'd ask the guy posting about the truck thinking I would get a simple answer. Also just cuz it looks like it's based off a ECX truck doesn't mean all the internal parts are the same some manufacturers copy other design but build them with better quality at a better price. Thanks.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender

It's a rebadge of the Carisma. I do like the landy body tho. It's the nicest stock lexan body I've seen outside of the Ambush. Some pieces of styrene on the front and rear would really make it pop.

I am confused why both this and the Carisma keep promoting it as "FPV ready." Have they actually tried a surface vehicle with FPV? I have. It's terrible. No depth perception and unless you can some how shoe horn an independent pan mechanism you can't really see out all that well, even with a WA lens. I have an ECX Roost that I bought specifically for that purpose. It feels like driving a fullsize car, yeah, but while you're wearing a neck immobilizing brace. Really makes you appreciate being able to look 3 degrees to the left to see the apex of a corner on the other side of the A-pillar.

Well there's no guarantee the internal parts are the same on something that's not even released yet, but it's not just common, it's likely with Micro RCs.
The ECX Barrage, FTX, Outback, RGT Adventurer are all basically the same truck with different bodies, some come with 1S lipo instead of NIMH.

Those axles are also very similar internally to the Sumo/HBX

It's definitely not a rebadge of the carisma. The carisma has that ugly chassis. This is a rebadge of the ECX/FTX/ RGT, but with different axle housings. The carisma is more like a clone of the previous 3 if anything.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender

Sneak Peak.
Hobby Plus CR-24
Eventually I'll go MUCH more in depth like I did years ago with the Trekker and Sumo parts comparability thread.

The 1/24 Carisma MSA-1E will be here Thursday or Friday. I'll do the same when that gets here.

Single cell Lipo ready.
Same width and wheelbase as the ECX Barrage /FTX Outback/RGT Adventurer.

Same size 25mm wheels as the Barrage which are more scale than the previous Losi/RC4WD 1.0" style.
The tires are just as super soft as the Barrage/FTX/RGT.

The wheels are real beadlocks.

The axle pumpkin looks great

The motor is Losi size, not the longer Barrage/FTX/RGT size.

The roll cage is real metal. Likely aluminium.
Chassis rails are similar to Barrage/FTX/RGT, though the shock hoops are intergrated into the chassis.

The shock springs are even softer than the Barrage/FTX/RGT

The motor is facing forward instead of towards the rear. The electronics are also mounted farther forward.

BEST OF ALL IT CRAWLS MUCH SLOWER than the Barrage/FTX/RGT.

The transmission looks like the same layout as the Barrage/FTX/RGT, but the spur gear cover is smaller. Maybe they are using compound gears for more gear reduction.

My one complaint is the axle shaft slop at the steering knuckles. However it's $89 which makes it the cheapest scale micro/mini crawler.
Also the remote control is pretty neat. More on that later.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...4a3636f22c.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...debd44749b.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9e507b5253.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f5ccc08a62.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...ecd9f74e4f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...3c7627ae9e.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8ae4e27f05.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...7fa00d61e7.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...a217a3342d.jpg

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender

Well looks like everything was exactly how I thought with the Hobby Plus CR-24 / D1RC
The axle internals are exactly the same as the Barrage/FTX/RGT even down to the gears and ratio. Looks like all the parts would swap around even the lock outs and possibly the Carrier Hubs

The best news is the new transmission.
It's the same layout and style as the
Barrage/FTX/RGT, however it has a thicker profile to fit the compound gears.
There's much more reduction than the Barrage/FTX/RGT. I'll add everything up tomorrow to get the exact number.
BTW this looks to also be the same Transmission in the Carisma MSA-1E.
I'll know for sure tomorrow when the Carisma arrives.

The Bead lock wheels are pretty sweet. The tires are just as soft as the Barrage/FTX/RGT and look like unlicensed versions of the Falkens the Barrage uses.
The tread pattern style is the same, however it's much more aggressive with bigger lugs and more spacing.

The wheels and tires are also the same size as the ECX Barrage/FTX Adventurer/RGT Outback and use the same 7mm that's now standard.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

Even without coming with a battery, and the fact mine came missing the hex pins ( the hex themselves are very very tight though) I'd say the Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender from Asia Tee's and the Hobby Plus D1RC Jeep from Bang Good are going to be the best bang for buck. I need to explore that 3rd channel. I have a feeling it's a basic on off switch.

I suspect the Carisma has the same transmission and will know by tonight, but I don't really like the chassis and can't see why it's $30 more expensive for basically the same thing.

I doubt the new UV Barrage with the FC body has the updated transmission, but will know in a few days.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

Agreed, they got a lot right. Even little details like making the bead locks keyed for easy Assembly or having holes and channels so you don't have to vent the wheels.

So far my only complaints are the slop for the front axle outputs from the knuckles, which can be shimmed, and the missing pins for the wheel hexes.

I'll really have to get some time running it to see where the axles will hang up. It's more scale so it has a few more edges to snag.

The charisma MSA-1E arrived today, I'll snap some quick pictures before I bring it home

The Trail Trekker was great, but not without faults and definitely not what I'd consider a scale crawler. The electronics were the best until the Proline Ambush, and the Worm gear axles, while not scale gave lots of gear reduction. Performance was one of the best out of the box.

The CR-24 Defender From Asia Tee's and the D1RC Jeep from AliExpress is more comparable to an 1/24 ECX Barrage/RGT Adventurer/FTX Outback. The same track width and wheelbase, same size wheels and tires,
Much better looking axle housings with the same style gears, shafts, and the same axle gear ratio. Even the link mounts are the same. The shocks and springs are even a little softer than the Barrage.

All of that compatibly is great IMO, but where the CR-24 & D1RC really shine is the transmission. It's very similar to the Barrage and keeps the motor low, however it has compound gears which give it lots more gear reduction which gives it more torque and much better low speed control.
I even like the transmitter better, which for me is saying alot about a RTR transmitter.
Then there's the sweet bead lock wheels that are super easy to take apart and rebuild, and the tires. They are the same size and same model of Falken tire as the Barrage, but it's more aggressive with bigger lugs.
IMO this is now the best value, best out of box performance RTR Micro/Mini and what the ECX Barrage could have been.
It outperforms the others while being the least expensive.
I've been showing pictures and recommending these on all the groups and definitely plan to add another to my stable.

I haven't had time to do my full review, breakdown, and video I promised. Until then here are a few size comparison pictures below. They are all just a few millimeters apart in size.

Seriously, for those curious or looking for an inexpensive crawler at this scale it's well worth the $. It's the best out of the box, the least expensive, and has as much potential for custom builds as the Barrage.
As long as they stick around and keep pushing these out while offering customer support and spare parts to purchase this will be the best bang for the buck.

spoo76 12-30-2018 05:03 PM

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

I like the CR-24 best overall and again it's the least expensive.

The RC4WD doesn't perform as well out of the box, but can easily be improved and while it's more than twice as expensive as the CR-24 its to be expected with a detailed hard body, full interior, a full metal chassis, links, axles, and wheels. If you want the ultimate scale looking RTR the RC4WD is it. If you want something that has a scale chassis, wheels, better performance, and is inexpensive the Hobby Plus is the one.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

I just picked up a Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender from AsiaTees. We already have an ECX Barrage UV FPV so this seemed like a nice addition to our micro crawler fleet.

Knowing the CR-24 doesn't come with a battery, I ordered a couple Hobby Plus-branded 220 mAh NiMH's also from AsiaTees. That's the exact same battery the ECX Barrage uses, which if you've ever looked into replacements - you'll note they are wired up in reverse polarity compared to most batteries with a Micro-Losi (aka Molex R) connector. At least if you're from the micro-quad world, which I am. Perhaps the way these batteries is wired is "normal" in the surface RC world.

At any rate, I glanced at the wire colors before plugging in the 220 mAh NiMH to the CR-24, noting the battery leads coming off the CR-24's speed controller were red and white. That's always fun, but lacking a multimeter, I decided to take the plunge. That proved to be an almost major mistake.

Turns out the CR-24's speed controller is wired for the opposite polarity of the ECX Barrage. The wires heated up almost instantly, but no magic smoke was released. I was ready, and disconnected almost immediately. Fortunately, no damage appears to have been done. I plugged in a 1S 500 mAh LiPo battery that has micro-Losi connectors wired with the opposite polarity of the 220 NiMh, and the truck functions completely normally. I could have just gotten lucky, or maybe it will end up failing down the road.

I'd like to warn anyone else considering the purchase of a CR-24 to double-check the polarity of the batteries they are using. In the case of the CR-24, the red wire coming off the speed controller appears to be negative, and the white wire appears to be positive. Again, this is exactly the opposite of how the ECX Barrage is wired.

Aside from the polarity drama, this little rig definitely crawls much better than the ECX Barrage. The gearing is remarkably slower and throttle response is much more controllable. Whatever they did differently in the CR-24 is working.

I actually like having both types of micro rigs. The faster Barrage UV covers ground when we're out roaming around and suits FPV style driving a little better. I like the CR-24 for regular LOS driving and crawling over small obstacles where FPV just doesn't really work so well due to not being able to turn and look down to the side to see what you're crawling over.

So yeah, the CR-24 is pretty cool.

Re: Asia Tees 1/24 Hobby Plus CR-24 Defender & D1RC Jeep

I don't think I mentioned the reverse polarity here, but I've brought it up in the Facebook groups. The reverse polarity is more common among the 1s lipo crawlers like the RGT, supposedly popular with drones. It's definitely caught some people off guard, but none I've read have fried anything myself included.

I've already ordered and received my 2nd CR-24, I still say for the $ I prefer it to any of my Barrages/RGT or RC4WD Mini Gelande as far as out of the box performance. even my Carisma MSA-1E. Would take a back seat imo

For those looking to pick one up AliExpress has a sale on the D1RC "Ranger" version of the CR-24. Same truck, but it comes with a Jeep body and a 1s Lipo and charger for under $75! It's normally $93
