Default SCX24 with 050 motor

I recently changed the motor in my SCX24 to a longer 050 barrage style motor. Speed seems drastically reduced with this combo. It makes it hard to use speed to bump the rear wheels over some ledges. Is this normal for that combo or have I installed something wrong?

You should have more power and wheelspeed. Is it loud? Perhaps you have your mesh way to tight?

Also, did you reuse the stock pinion or did your motor have one on it that you use?

Make sure the pinion is not loose on the motor shaft. I installed a pinion on my barage thinking it was snug, but when i drove it and tried to go over tough obstacles , the pinion would spin. Try another pinion or dab a small amount of crazy glue to lock the pinion in place.

It didn’t seem loud to me. It came with the pinion installed. I’ll check the mesh again and also the pinion for slippage.

Which motor did you use? Motors in the same size come in a large variety of voltage, speed, and torque ratings.

I installed a stock barrage motor in my 24 and have slightly more wheel speed and much more torque. I used the pinion that came with the scx24 and did have to play to get the mesh right. You say it was a barrage style motor, and if it is not the actual barrage motor it could be a higher turn motor (slower). I know that some are 100 turn rated and would definitely provide more torque but much slower wheel speed.

Here is the one I just recently installed. Works great so far and no noticable slow downs. I pulled the pinon off my stock motor with a bit of loc-tite.
