| Father and Son SCX24 Deadbolts
Last spring I bought a pair of Deadbolts for Dad and myself and we never had much of a chance to run them until this spring. Until Sunday, Dad’s has remained 100% out of the box stock while last year I cut the roll cage lights and hoop off because I just don’t like how the Deadbolts look with them in either scale and removed the “look who I bought stuff from!” stickers from the doors because I just don’t play that game....... ....... and that was in until I got out of the hospital a couple months ago from a fight with MRSA! I ended up ordering some of Rex Racer’s parts from Shapeways to lower the ESC/Rx and push the front axle out as well as to lower and move the battery forward as well. I got the tie rod and drag link kit too, but I had binding issues with the drag link and think I may have gotten ahead of myself and screwed them up. I went back to the stock steering and stripped the servo screw out of the spline and found that Hot Racing had an EMax specific mount and ordered the EMax servo then Hot Racing mount, and tie rod/drag link set then let things set for a while since the order for the servo took forever to ship We then took the trucks out the next day and ran them at the park I usually took my other rigs to and found that the really needed stickier tires, heavier wheels, a little more forward weight on the chassis and oil filled shock..... Next morning after breakfast, I added some tungsten putty to my front bumper the tucked it in as far as it would go. I then discovered that the Y-Link hits the ESC Plate and trimmed it with a Dremel. Did all that while watching the FabRats and Matt’s Off Road Recovery videos of the dead JK recovery they did Lined it up with Dad’s still stock truck to show the difference in the wheelbase and bumper position. Once that was done, we took a ride to a LHS and got some new rolling stock for the trucks, the same Yeah Racing beadlocks for both, the got RC4wd Falken Wild Peak A/Ts for mine and Milestar Patagonia’s for Dad’s. While I was at it, I also sharpies the trim spots on the printed parts and servo arm on my truck. Dad’s truck ended up with it’s bumper filled with more tungsten putty and tucked in too, by the time we were done with them! Ended being really happy with how the Yeah Racing beadlocks went together, though I probably should have bought some Patagonia’s for myself, I kinda like those better than the Wild Peak A/T’s, even though they appear to be the same diameter and are the same compound, the Patagonia’s are wider at the tread than the other two and seem to have a softer sidewall and/or foam. My Hot Racing steering parts may be here off back order tomorrow or Thursday, so I intend to throw those on once I get them and finished working for the night. I still would like to add working lights on the body and oil filled shocks, if anybody knows where to find such parts that won’t take a ton of effort to make work. I got lucky on the servo mount, got it through RCModz on eBay, but they are out of them now too. I think it may have been one of the last they in stock when I ordered it a few weeks ago. Looks like A-Main and Horizon are both still backordered and these aren’t showing up on eBay at all right now.

I really like those in both appearance and how they went together, and they were $54.99 a set, so the pricing wasn't out of line as well. The RC4wd wheels they had were about $69.99/ea and considering we were each getting a set of wheels and that difference all but paid for the tires we bought too. Between those, the tires, and the tungsten in the front bumper, I think these trucks will do much better next time we take them out!

Put the Hot Racing Steering kit on Dad’s truck, seems to work nice and will probably order another for mine. No pics of this, but I put some Factory Team Green Slime above the screw heads in the shocks on both trucks, which seems like it will help control suspension movement, at least. One thing I tried to dower weekend is to move the lights to the body shell, but with no luck and I’m not sure what to use for reflectors now since what I did get didn’t work. Suggestions are welcome! Just went back to stock, for now. |

Ended up ordering the Hot Racing shocks for these, seems that those are semi-oil filled too!

Did something new tonight, I flipped the transmission and skid plate! I had to modify Rex Racer’s LCG parts a bit as well as the driveshafts, then swap the motor wires in the plug, drawing blood in the process......, also had to stack a few strips of servo tape under the battery and a zip tie around the motor so they would fit with and stay in place better. |

Really nice mod! I bet that improves your forward weight bias! You should consider mounting the battery sideways. Let me see if I can hunt up a pic. |

Got a CC Hand light kit for the JL bodied SCX24 complete with lights to add working headlights in addition to the factory bumper lights and swapped the RC4wd Wild Peak A/T tires for my own set of their Milestar Patagonia’s since I thought the Patagonia’s on Dad’s worked better for what little I’ve done with them so far. |

Headlights in the body looks so much better IMHO. How did you do the wiring?

Ok, some updates, the SCX24s crawled way better Sunday, though we did get some new goodies today. Starting out with a few pics from crawling. The we got on the Hot Racing shocks and another one of their tie rod and drag link sets, put some 25wt shock oil in them with the light springs in the front and heavy out back for both trucks. And where they sit for now... Dad’s truck need the better servo bad, but we’re waiting for the HR EMax servo mount to come off b/o then will get him all set up to match mine. Once they all come in, I ordered RexRacer’s LCG parts for Dad’s and he’s wanting the chassis flipped for it too, so I’ll do that once it comes in and maybe make some sort of lock out for the servo save for the time being as well. |

Had to change the springs out, found the installed silver springs on the HR shocks were too stiff for either end, went to the black springs all around. And for fun Last edited by BJoe; 05-10-2021 at 11:37 AM. |
