Default MN Snowcrawl Series

Starting a thread to keep everyone informed about the upcoming Snowcrawl series we'll be having at Phil's garage in Fridley.

For those of you who didn't make it out at all last year, the format is pretty laid back. We run the course in a times fashion with penalties for hand of god and rollovers. Really informal And fun. A great way to keep the crawling going thru the winter.

We've been working off and on on course changes. Today, Phil, River, and I knocked out the start of the aerial elements, yes above our heads. Still work to do but it's coming along.

Wicked! Is this something a 1.9 jeep could attempt?

Yes, 'Dog, the course is set up to be a challenge for both 1.9 and 2.2. We customize the rock incline for each event and "tune" the other elements as we go...the intention being that newbies running their out-of-the-box stock rigs for the first time can have a good time without wrecking too much stuff, while still making it a challenge for the seasoned custom crawler dudes, too. Tough sometimes, but that's part of the fun, too!

The whole crew will get an invite so don't worry.

Finished up the frame twister update. For those of you who remember this from last year, it's much more doable now.

Went over to Phil's after work to do some more work and some test runs.

Normal rock like for those that have been there before.

My wraith and Clyde meeting on the transition.

The damn log ramp. Had a little mishap and ended up hung up a little.

Frame twister in the air.

Looping around.

The suspension bridge

Transition to the V ramp

The tunnel

The 180 ramp

Looks like well try to get the first one scheduled here shortly.

Dana

I had originally intended to host the first Snowcrawl of '14-'15 on December 6th, but then I learned that the MNRCRCR Winter Meeting was on the 7th. I think that having both on the same day might behoove those that are making a trip to be here for the meeting, so I suggested in the Meeting thread that they try to be done by noon or slightly before so I could set a start time of around 1:00-1:30, hopefully getting done by dark or close to it.

So, pending info regarding the timeframe of the Winter meeting, I'm planning the 2nd Annual Winter Snowcrawl Series Event No. 1 on Sunday, December 7th, at (hopefully) 1 or 1:30.l

I'll keep y'all posted.

OK, here's the plan:

The first event of the 2nd Annual Winter Snowcrawl Series will commence at 2:00pm on Sunday, December 7th, at my home. PM either Dana or myself for directions/address. For those of you that are planning on attending the winter MNRCRC planning meeting, c'mon over afterward, I'm sure we'll still be running people thru the course, and in any case the course will be open til late!

Some changes from last year's program, to keep the garage as uncluttered as possible:
Bring everything you feel you may need to the event, but please only bring in your rig(s), controller(s), and battery(ies). There will be a set of tools, workbench, soldering station, charging station, etc. available, and of course you are welcome to bring your own stuff in if/when you need to.
Bring a folding chair if desired, and please wear your winter boots...my garage is heated, but the floor will suck the heat right outta your feet!

The Rules:
Vehicles are classified according to tire size and build purpose...same as RCC rules, i.e. 1.9, 2.2, and Comp rig, but any feature you want is legal...dig, 4ws, automatic flipper-over, plow, winch, sound, wings, DVD player, whatever.

Fastest time wins each Division.

Penalties:
Repositioning without advancing position: 5 seconds;
Repositioning to advance past obstacle (must have attempted obstacle at least 3 times): 30 seconds;
Falling off course: No time penalty, whatever breaks on your rig will be punishment enough!

Bonus points:
5 seconds removed from total time for each rock thrown clear of the rockpile;
5 seconds removed from total time for each maneuver that results in spontaneous accolades from observing participants. Must be bestowed unanimously by those that actually witnessed the maneuver.

This Series is intended to provide an outlet for RC addicts during the crappy winter time, and it's all for fun. Bring any damn thing ya want to run, we wanna see the weird builds, too.

There is a Trophy bestowed at the end of the Series!

C'mon by and check it out, this course is designed for every skill level and vehicle capability...some places will be tough, and some will be easy, depending on the vehicle and your skill...so let's see what ya got!

Also, if you have items you want to sell/trade, or if you're looking to buy/trade, by all means bring them!

Depends on how much snow we get for the outside thing to work or not, if there's enough, sure.

I see the Facebook version of the Snowcrawl page has 200+ people invited, so I think it would be a good idea to start a new thread for the Series, and to limit the attendance at the events to the first 25 people to sign up. Check this section for the new thread.
I apologize for potentially turning people away, but I don't want to have to tell anyone that there's not enough room in the garage and that they'd have to wait outside for someone to leave.
If there is enough interest, I'll consider running the series twice on a weekend so more people can run.

I'm down for sure to get in on some garage crawlin! I'm trying to get my rig completed and get my front suspension dialed in for the event on the 6th after the meeting.

I'll take the blame for inviting all 200+ members on that page, I wanted to make sure people saw the new event but I dident know who to invite so I invited everyone!
