Default First Annual MNRCRC Top Truck Challenge - Oct 16th, 2016

MNRCRC Top Truck Challenge (TTC)

Where: Fridley MN
When: Oct 16th, 2016
Time: 10:00 AM to whenever
Cost: $5 per entrant per class (kids 12 and under are free) obviously spectators are free too.

Classes: 1.9 and 2.2 scale tired rigs

Reply below if you plan to compete!!

Prizes: All entrant fees will be paid out to the top three in each class
1st - 60%
2nd - 25%
3rd - 15%
(So it the total is $100 in a class, you get $60 for first, etc)
I am also working on prizes for different events.....more to come.

Truck rules:
* Truck must be scale in appearance
* 1.9 or smaller and 2.2 or smaller tires (you can run a 1.7 or 1.55 but good luck)(you can also run a 1.9 in the 2.2 class if you wish)
* Truck can only run one class, if you plan to run both classes you'll need two rigs
* Waterproof is required. Your truck will get wet. You can choose to skip the water events if you like and get the dns score
* A winch is not required but highly recommended. You can use your winch to advance during your run. No hands of God or helping pulls from other trucks.
* Other than this the sky is the limit. Dig, 4ws, Moa, 6x6, etc. Bring it and give it hell.
* No reconfiguring of the truck between events, except for moving items around on the truck. (examples: your tires need to be the same throughout, suspension config is the same)(Exceptions: if you break or damage a component it can be replaced with a similar component; i.e. servo, motor, shocks, even tires)

Competition Rules:
* No Hand of God or touching your rig once you start on a course. Only getting your winch cable or hook or to actuate your winch (if it's on a switch on your truck). Lifting or HOG your truck results in a DNF. Your progress stops right there.
* No battery changes while on course. Be prepared to change before you start the course. If your battery runs out, your progress is marked on course
* Winch anchor will be provided for the course judge to place for you to winch from. The soil is pretty mucky so normal pull pals won't really work. Winches only on mini rubicon, obstacle course, frame twister, and tank trap.
* A judge (I.e. Me, Phil, or River) will be keeping time on your run and marking penalties. They will be placing the winch anchor where you ask. In general, they will help spot, but you can ask a friend to help spot for you too.
* If you break on course, you have two options: stop and mark where you are done, or keep trying to make the truck work to progress further. On courses where winches are allowed, be sure to use it to help advance.
* If you are not making progress or end up upside down in the mud or water, we will mark progress and you can lift your truck out of the water as your run is complete.
* Just a reminder for those who don't want to get the truck wet. Be sure to start the course and either stop or go as far as you can. The points will be worth it!
* Getting one tire off course is a penalty, 2 is two, 3 is three. Driving completely off course (all 4 tires off course) is DNF for that event. Progress is marked where you go off course.
* Penalty - for each instance of tire off course 30 seconds is added to your time.
* Judges rulings are final. Only the judge can ask for feedback from the crowd.

Points System:

Each event has a winner and subsequent places. For first you receive a score of 100, 2nd - 95, 3rd - 90 and so on. Tank trap is worth double so a win there can be huge.
The total points leader after the tank trap is the overall winner.
A dns results in a score of 5 for that obstacle.

Events:
Mini Rubicon - a short rock course run in the garage rock pile at phils. Gate markers will be set to guide you. There is a time limit and hitting gate markers will just add to your total time.
Hill Climb - Steep dirt hill climb. Quickest to the top or the furthest distance is the winner. Time limit
Truck pull - Pulling a weighted truck up a sloped hill. Same as the hill climb, furthest the fastest wins. Time limit
Frame Twister - A two legged pass, first though some axle twisting obstacles and logs then thru the treacherous log and water pit. Time limit
Obstacle course - A long winding course through trees rocks dirt and hills. There is a time limit and the Best time wins
Mud Pit - short but treacherous stretch of mud and muck. Make sure your wheel speed is on point. Fastest time wins (or furthest). If you aren't progressing or go off course you're done.
Tank Trap - The finale. Difficult route up hills and ruts with water and rocks in the way. You will definitely want a winch for this one. Time limit.

You can use reverse in most events.
Rubicon, frame twister, obstacle course, tank trap - use it as much as you want
Hill climb - you get one approach to the hill. You can reverse a little (less than 1 vehicle length) to try and find traction while on the hill. If you roll down the hill, your run is over and Progress is marked. It is time limited
Truck pull - you can use one reverse to get momentum at the beginning. Afterwards, no more. When you stop you are done.
Mud pit - use reverse as much as you need to keep advancing. If you are not advancing the judge will call you stopped.
All remaining events, use it as much as you need.

Penalties:
Boundary markers will be in place in most events. Hitting a boundary marker will add time to your total, but will not time you out.

More info to come.....

I want to strongly suggest that you wear appropriate footwear, in this case we're talking tall, waterproof boots. Last time I went down there I sunk in over my ankles! Hopefully the 'skeeters will be long dead, but long sleeves might be a good call anyway because of all the down trees.

This is gonna be TOUGH! Bring your A game, and best rigs!!

@ XSRCdesign-- It's not THAT far!! ;)

You all know the Brodozer is getting the call for 2.2

Along with the Nukizer in 1.9

Hope one of them can pull out a good finish. As you can see, they are both ready for the mud ;)

Im planning on coming with my new scx10 2.
But i have a couple questions. What kind of hook are you using for the pull event? Should i get a reciever hitch hook or what?
It sounds like a blast! Im just getting back into the rc's again so this will be a new adventure for me.
Thanks, Tony.

We can hook either to your axle or the chassis. You don't need a hitch or anything. Just something in the center that can be hooked.

@ Nick and Tony...

I want to make SURE you guys know what you're getting into...this course is going to be brutal. Water, mud, rocks, logs, boulders, and in certain areas, all at once!

This isn't a beginner course...nor is it kind to electronics and drivetrains.

I am not trying to dissuade you from participating, I'm hoping to motivate you guys to prepare your rigs for the punishment that this event will surely mete out.

I know for a fact that my rig is a scaler fun rig and may be in for a bashing.... But let's not forget that we can opt out of a course and take a DNF.

Either way, it a great way to hang out with a bunch of great guys and play with our toy tucks!

Looking forward to it.... Gotta compare it to the TTC's that we ran back in ABQ.

Definitely we don't want to dissuade anyone from competing. It's truly all about having fun!!

Bring your a game and be strategic about how you run the courses.

Sometimes dnf and going on to the next event is better than being done for the day! ;)
