| ** Montana Indoor Rock Crawling Course **
We talked about this at the MTRCRC club gtg on sunday. I will offer up my shop for the space. I will also offer up my labor to do most of the work. Here is what we need for supplies. - 6-10 sheets of 5/8" 4x8' plywood or partical board - 5 gallons of rock colored Behr elastomeric paint - couple bags of sand to throw in the paint - Pink foam board, 1" up to 12" thick sheets, LOT'S of it - believe Ron " yawzer" said he may be able to get this. - atleast a dozen tubes of liquid nails to glue the foam - A Spray On bedliner shop to donate the spray to cover the rocks - bunch of cans of "great stuff" foam spray to fill cracks. - a set of wooden saw horses for each sheet of plywood. - fake foam rocks to glue down as well Post up what you can get donated or have available to you. If we all pitch in, this should not be too expensive. I would like to start a construction day on 2/9/08 or 2/10/08 in Helena at my shop. I would like to do a winter series, maybe twice a month for 6 months or atleast once a month for 6 months of winter. Let me know your thoughts. moger out......... Don't use the pink foam board. It is more expensive than regular white styrofoam and does not work as well. |

Has anyone in the US tried to do it german style, taking the stuff they use for casts (poly something) and putting newspaper beneath it so it forms bumps and get it wet and it hardens and take out the newspaper.

How portable does this need to be? You could always build it "Model Railroad" style with cardboard strips and Hydrocal..... Just a thought

I don't think you'd want to walk on foam sprayed with bed liner material either... I have a spray on bed liner in my Dodge. If you reach your fingers down into the stake pockets (where they over-sprayed the bed liner) you can easily bend it (bed liner) with your fingers...... You can get 5 gallons of hydrocal for about $27.00..... Price is all relative

I was thinking. You are having Yazer create this on his cad program, correct? Well along with the panels being able to fit into different shapes together would it be possible to make different obsticales fit on the surface. what I mean is have different shapes that will velcro or fit securely somehow so we could have a bunch of different puzzle pieces to make different lines. Then we could make tons of different combinations. and if we needed we could just create new puzzle pieces for new lines. I dont know if this makes any sense but I have a vision in my head.

kinda. More like we make inclines, have a general shape of a hill and have different shapes to put on for obsticles, that way it wont get monotinous with just the ability to switch the panels around

Cyberhog05, do you mean like removeable objects that you could have a delrin rod that can be put into rod slots on the track.

Ya a rod would be better than having velcro all over the thing! unless there was a block void where a piece could fit into, then velcro would be usable. I think that would be a good way to maximize the space constraint. Once the initial shape of the hill or incline is created then make a bunch of pieces that would be our obsticles. Hell maybe this was already the plan. I am still wet behind the ears! |

| You guys are describing the hand holds on a climbing wall, you can unbolt them and move them around. It's a stellar Idea, and is something that I think could easily be a doable. I think its something that could be done after by drilling holes and epoxying in nuts, I only mention it that way is that we have a very limited budget and time and want to maximize both and want to get it up and running as soon as possible. We could then add to it after we get the basics down and more of the aforementioned time and $$$ Last edited by slobin3d; 01-30-2008 at 11:09 PM. |

We need to find a source for free styrofoam. I wonder If Lowes or Home Depot just trashes there packing styro after they do deliveries. I use to drive delivery truck for sears and we would accumulate all of the foam and trash it when we got back for the day. Those are possibilites for free foam for sculpting the rock/removable obsticles. I dont think bolting them on would be cost efficient. the dowel idea is great and cheap.
