| Mercedes Benz G63 6x6-Fingo Style
Ever since I saw the first teaser pictures from the Mercedes Benz website I knew I HAD to build one, my first 6x6. I have been building this off and on for the last year and I kicked my butt into high gear to get it "done" for Axialfest 2014. I did a rough build thread on my club's forum, but this will be a refined thread on the finished product, with a current parts list. Enjoy! A picture of my inspiration! Final parts list for the build: ***Axles: 1st axle- RCBros Burly Tubes (hardened aluminum (The brass ones weren't available when I put this axle together.) Axial Hardened Overdrive Gears Vanquish knuckles and C Hubs Axial XR10 Universals with XR10 mod ( http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/multi...ial-axles.html ) Thanks Tim! Stock width 12mm Axial hexes. LockedUp FI Spool Stock Axial SCX10 housing 2nd axle- BEEF TUBES Axial Hardened Gears (stock Ratio) LockedUp FI Spool Stock Axial Straight axles for SCX10 Stock Axial SCX10 housing 3rd axle- BEEF TUBES Axial Hardened Gears (stock Ratio) LockedUp FI Spool Stock Axial Straight axles for SCX10 Stock Axial SCX10 housing Drivetrain- Supershafty Bombproof transmission for ax10 with 6mm outputs and 32p metal spur gear ( I don't remember the ratio) :P MIP shafts for AX10; MIP between the 2nd and 3rd axle shortened by Sam63 (thanks again Sam!) Tekin Pro4 HD 2500kv Electronics- Castle Mamba Max Pro with Castle BEC Hitec 7980th Steering servo Futaba 4PL KMS 220oz K3 Freespool winch Holmes Hobbies BRXL waterproof ESC for the winch controller (Last minute replacement due to 2 faulty controllers new out of the box.) Basic Axial light controller with only the 2 "front" LED's plugged in (for now) RCBros Wraith fairlead Suspension- Mix of Titanium and handmade 8/32 allthread links with aluminum and stainless tube sleeves. Traxxas Big Bores with JeepinDoug cups and Losi mini T Springs. CreationFab Upper link mounts Vanquish CMS/Panhard kit for SCX10 Wheels/Tires- Gearhead Sixer Beadlocks (x7) with LockedUp scale bolts (small amount of weight added to wheels for better performance due to weight of hardbody) Pitbull Rock Beast 1.9's Crawler Innovations 'Lil Nova 4.5 foams and soft outers Body- Nikko Hardbody chopped/shortened/sectioned Mega f**k ton of styrene and styrene glue Krylon Colormaster Classic Grey Gloss for paint Krylon Colormaster Satin Black DSPro Jerry Can, Can Mount, Siege Ladders, etc. Last edited by Fingonunny; 06-19-2014 at 11:39 AM. |

Link materials.... Extra chassis rails I had lying around to extend the chassis rails... Parts porn.... I ended up using LockedUp FI Spools instead of the Hot Racing ones in the picture. SuperShafty Bombproof Transmission with 6mm outputs and a Tekin Pro4 HD 2500kv... I found these Sexy Gearhead Sixer Wheels and added some LockedUp scale bolts. These wheels turned out perfect! I then added my favorite brand of tire, Pitbulls...duh, with some Crawler Innovations 'Lil Nova 4.5 foams with soft outers. You just cant beat this tire/foam combination in my opinion. Cold rolled steel drop mounts for 3rd axle lower links. Welded on by Chris at CreationFab, then drilled and cleaned up later. Thanks again Chris! Last edited by Fingonunny; 06-19-2014 at 01:53 AM. |

Don't mind the crappy cell phone pictures and poor lighting, it was most certainly late at night for almost all of my pictures. My old brass link mounts didn't hold up well on my first shake down run, as seen in these pictures. hence the new welded-on steel mounts. :P I added stainless steel sliders to the chassis as well; they are hard to see in the pictures, sorry. :( Steering setup with the Vanquish CMS/Panhard kit... KMS K3 Freespool Winch and Hitec 7980th steering servo mounted up. The winch freespool will be accessible through the driver's side wheel well. I ended up using an RCBros Wraith fairlead for the winch (not pictured) Last edited by Fingonunny; 06-19-2014 at 01:43 AM. |

Body time... This was the most stressful and most daunting part of the whole build; for obvious reasons... I started with a Nikko G Wagon hardbody and cut/sectioned it to better resemble the factory picture. Then I glued the shortened pice back on. Next I attached solid styrene reinforcements to the hardbody, for strength... Then building the side panels and matching the thicknesses of styrene to the raised portions of the hardbody... Now for the bed pieces... I love to drive my trucks and I run them hard.... Extra reinforcements here we go! |

A bunch of sanding/trimming/filling.... I added stainless steel sliders to the chassis as well; they are hard to see in the pictures with the body mounted, sorry. :( I went over to my friend RBGerrish's place and he made me this awesome cage. I think it came out great! Thanks Ryan!! I reinforced the bed sides a little more, drilled holes, test fit then painted the cage. 4 coats of Krylon Colormaster Classic Grey Gloss... I kind of forgot to take more pictures at this point, but you see the finished product.... A couple of action and poser shots from Axialfest 2014... Feel free to comment. Thanks for reading! Thanks! It's not even close to a lot of the guys on RCC, but it's my work in progress. Thinking of cutting the hood off and reattaching it with magnets for easier access to the electronics and such. |

Ever since I saw this rig on top gear I've been in love. Great job with the build man. That truly is a perfectly unique g6 rig and just straight cool. Dna |

That's a crazy amount of styrene work in the bed alone. How long did that take you?

Probably 20-25 hours over the course of a few weeks. I try to work slow when I am not proficient at something so I don't have to redo it a bunch of times. It's just like with anything else I suppose, practice, practice... ;)
