Default Wahoo, I getting an AX10

After looking for a new hobby, somehow stumbled on RC Crawlers ... thats it, I was hooked.
What to get?, found this forum, so instead of asking heaps of question that have probably been asked dozens of times before, I've been scanning the threads.
Finally settled on a AX10 Scorpion, one that was available in NZ.
It's RTR one, been used a couple of times, then was offered for sale on our version of e-bay.
Anyways, it will be modded before I recieve it, alloy rods, front diff locked, lathe motor, swaped gearing, and a few other bits. Not the betty body, the "other?" style truck ... which I'm still to identify.
Already planning a scaler, just haven't decided what, first choice would be a Blazer, followed by a FJ40.
Already had my head blown appart by what some of the scale guys have done.
The bar is set pretty high, lol.

Cheers, thanks for that.
It will do in the mean time, Hope to get a Blazer body later on. So have been reading through the threads as to which on to go for.
Planning a scratch built body, I have a full Chevy G10 Shorty.
In my goodies drawer, I have some original sales booklets for 78 and 80 vans. Some good all angles pics and dimensions for both the shorty and long wheelbase models.
As yet, I haven't seen anyone else do a scale Chevy 4x4 van, so I might be the first ... fingers crossed.
I'm a Manufacturing Jeweller and Badge Maker by trade, so have a huge sellection of tools at my disposal. Scale truck badges ... cool.
The AXe doesn't arrive for another couple of weeks, but will be here in time for my birthday next month, and have already done some "landscaping" in the yard to play on.

PS: Jed, we're all right hand drive over here, so very few "new" US trucks and cars.
We can import a US car/truck that is over 20 years old, and it can remain LHD, but if it's under 20 years old, must be converted to RHD ... at around $US15,000. Thats like $NZ20,000.
Only exception is if you bought it, and drove it in the US for 90 days, then you aren't allowed to sell it again for a specific period of time (think it is 2 years).

My Canadian assembled 82 Chevy van came to NZ about 15 years ago, with the Canadian owner (BC) who moved to NZ. It has a permit to remain LHD.
Not many Chevy vans here, mine is the only one I know of in NZ with the full retro custom body work which I have done in NZ with parts imported from the US.
I'm a member of Parlour Vans here in NZ, so even in our circle, I know of only my Chevy, and a Dodge Tradesman.

Default Have the AXe now ...

Had it a few months, already done some mods.
Added a new upper chassis to fit the FJ/Landcruiser body. Getting "stuff" together for making up LED lights, making up new grill - closer to what the Landcruiser grill actually looks like.

It's not going to be a true "scaler" ... at the moment, soooooo.
I'd like to suggest a new class - "A Class". Not accuratly to scale, just "accessorised" with scale stuff. Whatcha think ?

Bloody hard to find a full size one around these days, but have managed to find two locally.
Still working the Chevy van body idea around in my head ... as to how exactally am I going to do it.

Default Upper Chassis pic's

This is my first attempt, mainly to fit the Toyota Landcruiser body ... without using ugly body pins through the doors.
Next version will also include and replace original Axial side pieces.

Good to see another crawler starting off If you plan on doing any kind of serious crawling you need to loose the diamond plate, it is going to make your crawler VERY top heavy You want most of you weight over the front axle and in the wheels. With that much weight on top sidehilling will be really bad and climbs will make it want to flip.

All go now ... going scale.
Have got an X-Trail chassis, have the chassis's swapped over now.
Have chopped the top off the FJ, Jeep styles.
Currently working on getting floor completed so I can make a start on the roll cage.
My daughter has my digital camera, so no pic's at the moment.
I was hopeing to post a build thread, still might. Do I need a star to directly post pic's?
