Default New Tires... To vent, or not to vent???

Hello all, I've been modding a AX10 and just picked up some Rock claws. Should I vent them or let them balloon? I popped some holes in my stock tires and they seemed to be ok. Some of my buddies tell me I'm wrong, but on the rocks, it's a little unclear. Any suggestions or schools of thought would be appreciated.

Try them both ways and see what works best to you!

I personally use breather holes in all my rims.

yes breather holes in the rims is better than holes in the tires, they will eventually rip were the holes are.

i personally dont like vented rims. i run memory foams with unvented rims. best thing to do is just try both ways and pic what you like, there really isn't a right or wrong answer.

I personally like vent holes in the rims. seems to grip better with my setup. Like the others said, try it both ways and see what works better.

Don't vent the claws! I hope it's not to late. 2 small hole's in each rim work's for me.

Vent either the wheel or the tire. I've done both, and prefer to vent the tires.

Vent the rims, It will help not make the tire weak. And tear the tire under driving conditions.

use breather holes in the wheels not the tires. with breather holes tires will not bounce as much . imo.

2 1/8th holes in wheels. If you are gonna be in some water, put a piece of tape over the holes to seal them up. You don't want any water getting in there as it will get all kinda nasty, smelly, moldy........it would gag a maggot!

YeahI had to use vent holes on the rims. Each of y 2 tires would pop off the bead without the breather holes.

Vent. The tires will conform better to the rocks.

The tires are just as strong with small vent holes. I've run vent holes in the tires on my crawler and Savage, and really like it that way. I've found that the small holes allow water and sand to spin out at higher RPM so that I don't have to disassemble the wheel to get it out.

There is no difference between wheel and tire holes with regards to how much they bounce. If anything, tire holes bounce less, because they're usually a little bigger.

we are talking crawlers here. High RPM's phssss.

imo it doesn't make a difference which you vent, I personally vent my rims 'caus it would kill me to put holes in my new tires, plus as stated before, you can close the holes in the rims if you want to play in the water. I would imagine it being difficult to seal a hole in a tire.

In response to the original question, Yes, I would defiantly vent. Just like in 1:1, they run their tires at a silly low psi, venting and cutting you foams gives you that same effect.

I always start with a really small hole like a 1/16, and work my way up to what i like, don't just start with a 1/2inch drill bit.

i tried running unvented but found the main problem is that the tyres can pump up or deflate with the weather(atmospheric pressure change), i had to undo the beadlocks to equalise them before i could go crawling, i now run vented with memory foam, i have found this set up is best for where i crawl.

You understimate the power of 3s lipo. Heck, my brother in law runs 45t Integy on 8 cells and can eject junk from his tires. Really it probably wouldn't matter. I'd still be disassembling my beadlocks if I ran in water. I spent too much on my memory foams to risk screwing them up.

I run 2 7/64th" holes in the fronts and just one in the rear.

Allows for fast grab up front and keeps them from crushing in the rears too fast.
