Default 7.5 oz good place to start?? ax10

is the 7.5 oz a good place to start when weighting the front wheels. I have stock rims with rock claws. they are weighted now from the previous owner and weigh a total of 8 3/8oz, that includes the tire, rim, weights. they are weighted on the outside http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...0/P1030119.jpg

and today i got some stick on weights. so i was going to redo them.

Not a bad place to start. You'll probably want to add some weight to the rear. It will help with downhilling.

thats a good place to start. dont add any weight to the rear, it makes some steep climbs alot harder then they need to be.

well i added 3 more oz of stick on weights to the inside of the fronts, and cut the foam to a star pattern, the rear already has 3 oz of weights on the outside of the rims just like the front. i will see how this does and go from there

I added 6oz. to the front wheels on my AX-10 with the stock tires and Proline Memory Foams and it made a very good improvement.

I found that I need to add some weight to the rear wheels though. As mentioned above it will help with downhilling. And I noticed that without any added weight in the rear wheels the suspension was not able to work as smoothly. So I added 4oz. to the rear wheels and although I have not run it yet I know this worked on my other crawler.

My front wheels weigh in at 13 oz ea. My rears are at 8 oz each. I use the dubro wieghts that you usually find in the hardware section at you hooby store. Tire weight has a lot to do with your terrian. Also throw your battery on the axle for some more foward bite. Down here in southern AZ we have enough traction to make so 65 to 70 deg climbs so we have alot of bite and use the heavy tires to get the grab

On my Scorpion I have 54 oz in front and my second battery in back.

First real test will be Saturday at a place called Pyramid Lake.

Just drop by a auto parts store and ask for stick-on wheel weights. They usually come in a stick of 12 x 1/4 oz weights = 3.0 oz in total. The weights are easy to snap apart for fine tuning of the total weight. I think I paid less than a dollar a stick - I wouldn't even ask about the price of the Great Airplanes (?) ones at the LHS

Here's a ring of 14 around a Junfac beadlock:

Nope I mean 54oz. But I can fine tune the weight down to about 3.25oz per wheel if need be by removing the weight straps or insert.

I've got to ask - "Why 54 oz?" I'm running about 12 oz on each front wheel and about 9 oz in each rear. Even at that weight my rig's axles take a bit of pounding on a rough downhill tumble!! I can't imagine what this must be like when you're running 54oz

And right now I am finding my current weight working really well with my Panther's with stock foams.

Just curious what advantage you see to running that much weight.

i can't imagine having that much weight in my wheels! i just put some weight on my front axle and i feel like that (7.5oz) is way too much rotating mass, my stomach hurts thinking of turning the 54oz!

Yeah I agree running almost 7lbs of weight in just the front axle will kill your drive line. The ring and pinions are not hardened. Plastic drive shafts and plastic gears. Even top of the line supers don't run that king of weight

That's 54 oz TOTAL weight up front but if I find it's too much, and so far so good, I can reduce it in increments of about 3.5 oz all the way down to 3.5 in each wheel. Being that the weight is close around the center of the axle the power required to turn the wheels isn't as bad as you might think. If the weight was near the outer circumference of the wheel then there might be a problem getting the thing rolling but as it stands right now I can almost pull the front wheel off the ground:-P

I'll be trying it out in a comp Sat.

Having weight is one thing and can help. 54 ounces is to much though. I forsee premature failure in the axles, lockers, shafts, gears and diffs. If you wanna run that much weight, you need to step up to big boy axles and not itty bitty 1:10 scale stuff.

2 of your tires alone are heavier than my entire 2.2 fully charged and RTR.
