Default Reciever question

Greetings. I have a question that maybe common knowledge. However, my new Scorpion is my first new RC car since my RC-10. Yea... I am referring to the golden chassis one... yea.... the one that is 20 years old. :-P

Any whooo....

I just purchased a new scorpion to add to my bizarre fleet. (RC-10, Grasshopper and Boomerang). Back in the day, we hard wired our receivers into our main battery power supply to help with weight reduction. (I raced the stock class. I needed all the help I could get.) Recently my RC-10 got a battery upgrade, which led to connector upgrades, which ended up smoking my receiver power leads. (hmmm. Nice battery!). Can a receiver be wired into the battery still? I am using NiCD 3600 Venom batteries with Dean Plugs. Any wire suggestions would help. I have seen from other posts on this fine forum that saddle batteries over the front axle can help your climbing ability, (lower center of gravity). I have ran all my wiring across my chassis a few times but I can not find a "happy" spot for that receiver battery pack.

Thank you in advance for your time and patience.

Depending on what you are using for a speed control you no longer even NEED a receiver battery. Most modern speed controllers have a built in B.E.C. or battery elimination circuit. Tell us more about all of the electronics on your rig, brands and models of esc, radio etc.

Ok. I have a Futaba Magnum 2PL. I have ordered a Rooster Crawler and 55 Turn combo. Currently I am running a Novak Sport M5, with a speedswork motor, until my new controller gets here. The Novak should be replaced by this evening with the Crawler. My front servo will be a Hitec HS645MG.

Thanks!

If you are looking to upgrade to a stronger servo you may want to look into a CC BEC. Well worth the $19.00

thanks guys! It turns out my sport M5 doesn't need a battery either. Wow, that could have saved a lot of headaches years ago.

Sinastir... is that CC BEC a stronger servo then a Hitec HS-645MG?

Thanks again guys. This forum is worth its weight in gold.

The BEC is not a servo. It is a voltage regulator for your servo.

I have the Hitec 645 servo with the Castle Creations BEC and I gotta tell ya, the BEC made my servo quicker, and I can even change the voltage that gets directed to it. I am very happy with my BEC purchase.

Do you have to run a Castle speed controller with it? My LHS fell through so I am going to order my setup online, after this weekend. I am just trying to get everything clear in my head.

You can run any speed control with the CC B.E.C. there are good wiring instructions on CC's website.
