| Stock is bad?
I was thinking about getting an Ax-10 Scorpian Rtr. I don't have the kind of money to keep upgrading to make it a decent crawler. So I was wondering if the rtr is a good crawler out of the box? At all? If not, what are the very first upgrades you would recomend? It seems the kit or the artr is already a little better with the metal links, etc. Would it be a better investment to buy one of these instead and just buy the parts seperate? I was thinking a nice 55 turn motor and a traxxas radio, but I'm not sure on a servo and esc. Any help would be fine! Thanks! |

If budget is a concern, then the AX10 RTR is perfect. It'll perform better than a similarly priced HPI Wheely King, and will not require modding to start crawling. If you have a slightly large budget, the AX10 ARTR is the way to go. |

| 1st things to change...
The 1st things I suggest to improve the RTR performance. 1. Install included crawling options. (locker and pinion) 2.Get the battery down on the front axle. (Huge performance impact) 3.Get softer springs. Just doing this makes it quite enjoyable to crawl, then you can spend the rest of your life blowing your budget on upgrades that will continue to make it perform better. |

I have two friends with the RTR's and they enjoy the heck out of them. So far they have only needed to make metal links and steering rods
Besides that, they moved some stuff around and they are competing with them. I personally don't like the speed controller's two tap reverse... but they said you get used to it. |

If your gonna spend the money then drop $15 on a 55T motor. THEN go servo. Theres little things you can do to the rtr to improve its performance w/o dumping money into it. Start saving and invest in a decent steering servo and some great tires. * DONT skimp on the servo. i.e... the new 7955TG just came out SO you can find Brand new 5955TGs for $80-$85 new or $40-$50 used. * Tires. Dont buy specific tires because someone on here told you to. Head out to your battle grounds where other crawlers crawl. Better yet head to a local comp and see what everyones running. Different tires for different terrains. It will also depend on set up and driving style but at least its a start. Good Luck | |
