Default Newbie buying a high lift Hilux

Hello everyone. Newbie here, been out of the hobby for awile, sold my clod crawler about 6 years ago and haeven't touched anything since. Well, who can resist the Tamiya Toyota Hi lux High Lift. Went to my local hobby shop on Friday and ordered one. I always wanted a hilux back in the 80's but could never afford one, bought a blackfoot instead like alot of other kids I knew. It will be here this next thursday. Question is, can I run a 3 channel radio instead of a 4? Glad to be apart of this website.

You sure can use a 3 channel. I use a Spektrum DX3 (not DX3.0) and since the 3rd channel switch returns to center I have to hold the switch in place to stay in 1st or 3rd gear. Not a big deal, and I could wire in a switch that holds it's position. Many options out there. Even an old Traxxas TQ3 radio with a 3 position switch would work.

The guy at the hobby shop told me I could use a traxxas TQ3, but I just wasn't sure. I can tell this site is going to be more helpful than I thought. Thanks.

You have no idea.

It's an addiction.

You might know, did Tamiya build their trucks with the same wheelbase? Does a king Blackfoot body have the same wheelbase as a F-350/Toyota Hilux? I know the 1/12 stuff was smaller.

That I do not know. It wouldn't surprise me if that question has been asked here already, and could be found with the Search button. Use the advanced search and get specific.
