is this a good transmision for it

crunky 11-03-2008 02:18 PM

well thats a pretty vast question.

perhaps you should tell us what you want to make and we can help.
while you are waiting, look at these threads.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-scale-rigs/100012-building-budget-my-scout-x-trail.html

two shining examples that made me want to build one.
then i just happened to get lucky and found one already built by a member here with plenty of love and care.

http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/2-2-scale-rigs/138987-my-new-bronco.html

so as you can see there are plenty of options that you can do.
to put a rig like these together if you have no parts to use/trade...
might run you around $500 including battery and charger.
good luck and keep us posted. "thumbsup"
xtrails rock !

nitrosport963 11-03-2008 02:29 PM

i want to make a scale crawler so i can mess arond in the woods

crunky 11-03-2008 02:35 PM

did you look at those threads ?

they can help you a ton.
and everything else just ask.

you could start with a rtr ax10, with the stock radio and gear.

or you could go to ebay and get a hole pile of parts and buy screws and buy more screws and buy a body and buy a radio and buy a.......

see what i am saying ???

another good option is to support the site and buy a star to get to the for sale section and poke around to see if there is one already built.
http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/annou...t.php?f=30&a=1

or i can sell you mine for $ 500 and build myself a new one.
just kidding. "thumbsup"

nitrosport963 11-03-2008 05:56 PM

can i just use the stuff off this?
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXTSY2&P=FR
are the axles and transmission good?

crunky 11-03-2008 06:28 PM

you could, but then after you have to go get a radio, rcvr servo....
your going to be right around the same price as getting the ax10 rtr.

the wheelie kings axles are a bit wide.

nitrosport963 11-03-2008 06:44 PM

would a tq3 a xl5 and some High Torque sevo off ebay work?
and ow wide are they coud i fix that to make it more scale?

crunky 11-03-2008 07:46 PM

sure you can parts things together all day off ebay.

if you have the energy to fly parts in from all over the country then that will work...
as for narrowing the wheelie king axles...
you may just get a set of axial axles off ebay as well.
then you need shocks...
do you want droop or sprung suspension. ??

roninwarrior555 11-03-2008 09:30 PM

if you already have an ax 10 then all you would need is the chassis and the hard ware kit for it and hit the trails or the rocks. i use mine for both and it works alsome......

crunky 11-04-2008 07:55 AM

he doesn't have any onf that to work with. he is trying to build one cheap.

if you get yourself a star today, and get into the classifieds section there is a gent selling a very nice rig in there for a great asking price.
it's not ready to run, but pretty damn close. from what i see its right up your alley of what you are looking for... just the hard part is done. under 250 bucks. its a d90 with axial axles and tranny. its setup in droop, so it prolly runs like my lil Crunko.
all you would need is radio gear and a battery.
it's used but not beat.
thats what i would be looking to do if it was me and i was trying to do things cheaply. "thumbsup"

nitrosport963 11-04-2008 01:53 PM

the xtrail says its for the axial ax10 can i put wheely king axles on it?

nitrosport963 11-04-2008 08:22 PM

nobody knows?

crunky 11-04-2008 09:52 PM

i'm sure you could...
depends on how good your fab skills are.

why are you so hooked on wheelie king axles ?
axial axles are just as cheap on ebay... and more of them.

nitrosport963 11-05-2008 01:47 PM

if axial sells some secret ax10 roller for cheap then ya i would buy it. and i don't want to buy just axles off eBay unless there super cheap.

MiddleT 11-05-2008 05:46 PM

You may be interested in something that im looking at right now and thats axials new scx10 scaler. Dont have the link but just go to axials site and look under the dealers section."thumbsup"

nitrosport963 11-05-2008 07:02 PM

does this mean that the wheely kings rear axle is not a stait axle?

MiddleT 11-05-2008 07:33 PM

Actually the price wiil be around $240 w/o electronics. I'm saving my money for right now. Plus it hasnt released yet. I also want to read a view reviews of it before i bite the bullit.

It is a straight axle they're just doing away with cv/universal joints. If u dont want any rear steer this will improve reliability since there is not as many things to break.
