Default what's needed for a rig to be scale?

If i go the scale route with my 2.2 axial, what do I need to include in order for it to be "scale"?

is the body style limited to trucks? can i use a parma mercury body?

How many Mercurys do you see out on the trail?
That should answer the question right there.

on 1:1's you can put a car body on a truck chassis. i've seen a lot of people do it in real life. on youtube there is a monster mudder smart car. so it would be somewhat scale. to me, a scale truck is when the rc looks like a real truck. or along the lines of a real truck which means NO tvp chassis.

If you wheel enough, in enough places; you'll see just about anything out on the trail...

There's more than just Jeeps, Chevy's, Fords, and Toyota's out on the trail ya know.

To the OP, go for it. Make it realisted with lots of detail though so you can silence the nay-sayers.

Non traditional does not equal not scale

EDIT: Too slow...

yeah, i know there's monster mutt at the shows but for this, i was thinking of tubbing the rear trunk area and such. what's the best chassis to base the truck with? thnx for the encouragement. i was going to use a nomad body but didn't see one at my lhs.

I think your best bet would be to look at some 1:1 pics of the type of scale off roader you want, purpose built, prerunner, mud truck, rock racer ect. there are a wide variety to pick from.

I've been wondering the same thing, I have an ax10 and want it to look fairly good, I've got a tamiya fj40 body for it and flat irons, lights but for now atleast I will be keeping the ax10 chassis, though I'm going to make some chassis extenders and bumpers and really work on the details.

Not sure what it will be but it's certainly not a 2.2 comp rig

yeah, i catch dakar every year and have seen a few runners down south in socal up close. i just didn't know if there were "rules" like it has to have this or that to be a scale rig. lights, etc. i'll probably just slow down and read more about it.

you could start with finding an x trail chassis, or something similar or you could build a chassis out of aluminum or half inch square tubing and make your own but a tvp chassis doesnt look very scale when you put lots of detail into the rest of your build just my oppinion i took the build it yourself route with my chassis and i dint have alot of power tools to work with but some pacience and injenuity (sp) and you can come up with something pretty nice heres a pick of what i did its half inch square tubing i used a mapp torch to heat and bend it
