Default Mud truck

This is my first post so please go easy on me. I am trying to build a nice scale mud truck.I started with a tcs x trail chassis for the build. I am looking for ideas for the trans and axles to use. I am using the plastic control arms taken off of my rtr ax10 since converted it to the anno links.
I also have the waterproof steering servo , esc,and rec box from my traxxas slash. I am looking to kinda keep this build on the cheeper side using parts off the shelf.
Thanks in advance

Just run an AX10 tranny and axles for it. You can buy them seperately from TCS or some of the other vendors here, so you don't have to buy a full kit to get them. Either that or check out some of the stuff at RC4WD for a more scale looking axle. You may even have enough spare parts for you AX10 layin around that you could get away with just buying axle housings, or whatever you may need to make them complete.

For axles: cheap and strong= Wheely King axles.
For a trans: I would go Axial or pede. You could even use a WK trans if you clock the motor.

Hope this helps,
Justin

WOW.. I cannot belive the response time. I kinda wanted to stick with the ax10 axles and the trans but did not know if there were other ones out there for the quick install. I really dont have any left over parts from the ax10 to spare, so it all has to be new. Will the Wheely King axles work with the ax10 trans ... what about the drive shafts?
Thanks again.
any Ideas for shocks.

Yes the WK axles are compatable with the AX-10 trans. I'll get a link to a build that used both for you to see. Here you go.

For shocks you would probably need to wait and mock up how you want it to sit. But I would think 90-110mm shocks would be good.(Just my .02)

I've thought about this and figured that I'd probably just use the whole WK roller with the HPI Crawler conversion and something wild like the VXL in it. It would look like something from a "Trucks Gone Wild" video by the time I got done though.

Again, thanks for the reply. Once i start getting the parts together i will post some pics. I think i will go with the ax10 axles and the stock ax10 trans with the slipper. This way if i do put a hot motor in it there wont be any breakage...I hope... The shocks i might go with the scale looking ones from TCS .. like bigdodge said the 90mm 110mm ones i can also use the neat shock boots they make for them. As for the motor would you guys go with a high turn to get out of problems or go low turn to fly over it.
This thing it going to be killer .... thanks again

For the motor I would go with a Holmes Puller. Lots of wheelspeed but good torque too.

I personally wouldn't run that motor through mud or water...thats a really expensive motor and mud tear motors up. For mud I would run a stock 55 or somthing that doesnt cost 80 bucks a piece.

You would probably be okay though with it in an electronics box w/ a heat sink. I would get John's recommendations on it though first.

Yeah, no mud running for my pullers I would throw in a cheap can johnson or mabuchi and prepare to ruin some stuff.

thanks again for all the help. in the last two weeks my wife and i just moved and all my things are packed up. so i will be digging out all my things in the next week or so.
also i do see people running fuel line in the shock to limmit the travel is this somthing i should be doing. i am running stock ax10 shocks and i have converted them so the spring is onthe inside. should i still run the fuel line to limit the travel.
thanks again

You can if you want, run 'em under the piston, inside the shock, if you plan on running a droop setup...
I didn't on mine as I rock crawl my "Mud" truck sometimes and needed the articulation.
AX10 axles/trans/shocks on X-Trail style chassis.:-P
