Default Stair climbing

Hello all -

I have been lurking around here for awhile, but this my first post!

First of all, this is a great board - very informative.

I am looking to build/buy a crawler that can handle climbing stairs pretty easily. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Currently I am looking at either an AX10 ARTR with a Tekin FXR pro 55t system or a Newage 2.2 crawler

Suggestions or comments are appreciated.

if you want to climb stairs a super is your bestbet, 2.2s tend to be to small (shoft) to climb the average stair case, thats being said why climb stairs when there is good crawling out side?

Same here. My ax10 tends to roll over backwards on my 3rd step. Go find some rocks.

Super all the way! Saw your thread and fired up the digital, sorry for it being so dark, best I could shoot in a pinch.

Tech note:
8-10 pitch carpet stairs with a slight lip
17" wheelbase super
Half drained battery...lol

A vid with more light would be great!

Also, are there any ARTR super chassis out there?

I see the XTM:
http://www.tcscrawlers.com/XTM-X-Cra...s-p-17136.html

But hear they have some issues?

What about Gmade stealth or Gmade spider:

http://www.tcscrawlers.com/Gmade-Spi...t-p-16133.html

Are those considered super class?

Thanks!

Most Supers will climb stairs with ease due to the tire size and the wheelbase length.

Most 2.2's cannot climb stairs, they either flip over backwards or high-center and lose traction.

Start making adjustments to a 2.2 to enhance stair-climbing performance and you'll leave the realm of comp-legal pretty quickly. You need bigger tires and a longer wheelbase to make it up stairs, and you can only go so far before you've got, well, a Super class rig.

Do you live in an utterly urban area or something?

The people that I have tolked to that have the XTM said that they would of rather put a clod together than bought the XTM, they would of been money ahead.

I have not talked to any one that has the Gmade. It looks cool, and looks like it would defenitly hold up the punishment. The Gmade would be the only ARTR that I would consinder.

But in the long run I would suggest a "NN" or "Stick' chassis and some clod axles. You could do upgrades on the axles as you go, if you didn't want to spend the extra money up front.

I just remembered the "Hustler" from www.RCPCrawlers.com comes as a ARTR. I is expensive, but is bulit proof.

Good luck on your choise.

Clod axles + crawford performance engineering "CLAW" 60/40 shockless chassis (so you dont have to worry about a shock cap coming off and oiling your carpet) and a couple good 35 to 55 turn handwounds and you will have a stair climbing monster. I have yet to meet a set of stairs my clod cannot climb over and over. It also climbs the hell outta some rocks...
