For the money, and fetchers, I would go with a Side Winder for Castle Creations. Good ESC all around, and a good price for what you are getting.

The big question is are you going to want to eventually run Lipo?

Mamba Max-3s
Sidewinder- I believe it can also run 3S
Tekin FXR- 3S
Novak- 2S

I would recommend going with a Castle Creations product. They are made really well and can handle 3S and I have heard of people running more. You can buy a cheap ESC but you will get what you pay for.

sidewinder good price/quality/expandable; poor drag brake, need computer and link to program. novack, popular basher, more $s, won't do 3s or brushless. fxr more $s (until ya add link), smaller, great drag brake, easy to program, won't do brushless. mamba, lots of $s, overkill for single motor.

Check out the moped V16r. Decent esc for a cheapie
Also try a 45t motor if your not worried about wheel speed. Another thought...if you can wait until june, John Rob Holmes has a KILLER esc listed for $90. I just hope I can wait that long to replace my esc...
