| link material?
What are people using for custom made links? Where can i get some? is it drilled and threaded all the way through, so u can cut to custom length? if not how do you cut, drill, thread? i have a stock AX10, looking at making true 4 link uppers and longer (like the CKRC stage 2 kit, but not wishbone).

I used 6/32 all-thread incased in 3/16 aluminum tubing. You can get the all-thread at your local hobby store or Lowes. The 3/16 aluminum tubing I found cheaper at Hobby Lobby.

Aluminum tubing seems to be the most popular. Delrin is also pretty common though, and both work great from what I have seen. You honestly can't go wrong with either. To thread the inside, you can buy tapping drill bits.

I either used all thread in cased in aluminum tube or turnbuckles from different vehicles.

I use 1/4" Delrin Tube that I run a 5/32" long thread drill bit thru, then run M4 threaded rod the entire length....capped off with REVO rod ends. I use this mix for straight and bent links. All material is from McMaster-Carr.

I use a industrial supplier called MSC,you can buy Delrin rod in 3ft lengths for next to nothing. I make my uppers from 1/4"and my lowers from 5/16". I have drilled and tapped or drilled and cut threads with threaded inserts, and the ones I didn't tap first never fail.

I use 5/16" delrin then put a 4x20mm all thread screw in the middle and use revo rod ends. I can buy 60" of delrin for $3 and some change

I use revo rod ends, 8/32 threaded rod and 1/4" brake tubing. I prefer the brake tubing over aluminum tubing as it will slide over rocks better, but delrin tubing would slide even better than brake tubing is just not as easy to get. Your local hardware store will have the 8/32 rod and an autoparts store will have the brake tubing and you know where to go for revo rod ends!!!

Another method not metioned is the arrow shaft routine, if you have an archery supply nearby. A piece of arrow shaft with inserts in each end, with all-thread threaded all the way through and Revo rod ends... | |

Its not as bullet proof as the SS tube and thread, but The arrow Idea is a good one to try. Try it out, It is cheeper to make. Last edited by Da Hermit; 05-18-2009 at 01:42 AM. |

I bought longer links on rcpcrawler.com. I thought about using the all thread in the aluminum but was advised not to because the all thread is not hardened and can snap easier at the ball end.

I'm using 1/4" solid steel round. Found at your local Big R for around 2.50 for 4'. Tapped then ends and used rc4wd metal rod ends. They're petite looking, but nice and strong.

All thread is tough and better than dickin around with taps. Stainless deffinetly slides over rock better than aluminum and the pen trick sounds cool! Ill have to give that a try for a front stearing link. I have had great luck with the revo steel push rods, 7 bucks completely ready to go!!
