Default newb-ish......

So, as the title says, i am new on this forum, just bought my first crawler 2 days ago, BUT have been around them since the AX-10 came on the scene. i, unfortunatly, didnt have the budget for a crawler,(actually got out of R/C completely for the worst year and a half of my life) and had to watch my friends drive them while i wished i had one. Wanted the SCX-10 kit, but got a deal i couldnt refuse. an AX-10 RTR, with the angled alum lower links front & rear, low CG battery/servo mount up front, integy MSR10 shocks, hitec hs645mg servo and the pro-line rockstar body, for $285.

i will be posting some pics soon, im considering picking up the TCS trail scale chassis kit and going the scale route, maybe keeping the 2.2 wheels though, it's be a scale truck on 50" tires right?

ive already ordered an 85T lathe motor, truck body and will be running at 12/93 pinion/spur combo.

anyway just thought i'd ramble on like a kid at x-mas.....oh wait....it kinda is lol. admit it, you all were like this YOUR first time too!

just a personal opinion about the 85T motor since ive had one is that...

...well their too damn slow.

i like 55T and lower but youll just have to see what you like

looks like you got yourself a decent crawler.

im hoping, that if it is too slow, i can speed it up through gearing.

oh and random question that came to mind, are there optional gear ratios for the axles?

yes axial came out with underdrive for the rear axle and overdrive for the front axle. i personally dont have them but a quick search on here should shed some light on those for you.

Nothing!!! lol

i ordered a set of IMEX claw dawgs from tower hobbies.....as thier site claimed they had a 4.88" outer diameter.

Boy were they wrong! they measure 4 1/8" before i mounted them, 4" mounted. so my truck is on scale 40"s :-(

It's better to have a motor like 35t and gear down than 85t and gear up. You will have more torque and power with the 35t on low gears. Like JRH says volt up...gear down.

this is it as of a few hours ago, i just put the last coat on the body, im not pleased at all with how it turn out. the paint was crap, my pinstriping i use for masking clean lines didnt hold, the masking tape didnt mask.....and you always notice the imperfections AFTER you put the last coat on!

my problem is i ordered the motor, gears and tires on the same shipment, so i found out the tires were to small the same time i got the motor :-(
