Default Purpose of Lockouts?

Noob question...what is the purpose of putting lockouts on your axle? On bergs...are they only meant for the rear axle? Can you run a DIG unit with them?

They are to lock the rear wheels from turning. Yes a dig can still be used.

They can't be used on the front axle or else you'd have no steering, most are meant to be used with straight axles which are much stronger that dog bones.
