| Venting wheel/tire
Hello, Building my first rig and I need to vent my wheels/tires. On my 1/8 scale buggy I vent the tire rather than the wheel and am wondering what the preferred method is for a crawler. I dont want to drill the wheels if I dont have too, but if it makes a performance difference let me know. Thanks. |

Ive ran the vents both ways but I prefer the vent in the wheels its self that way theres no chance of ripping a tire.

Just vented my rims about a month ago. The tires work much better then before. Its like airing down your tires while on the trail in a 1:1 rig. More grip and less bounce. Well worth it, and its free.

I put a small hole in the rim itself- that way the tire wont rip when it get caught on something- I put the hole in a place so I can put a small screw in it to plug it if I ever need to. Just my opinion !- Have fun

I've done both as well. i'd rather vent my tire with a nice leather punch. The chance of the tire ripping is small when it's a nice clean edged hole (which the leather punch provides.) Plus if you drill the rim, and then wrap lead, you will most likely plug the holes up, and then end up drilling again through the lead (and the chances of hitting the holes you already made is close to zero.) Additionally, if you're not paying attention you may drill through on of the bead lock screw's threads
