I don't know what a reasonable price is for you but I think I'll be going with a Traxxas XL5 for my Trail Honcho SCX10. And the Traxxas Digital Waterproof servo. That way I can drive it through creeks and such with no issues.

whats your budget??? lots of great speed controllers out there. for crawling the castle sidewinder, tekin fxr or novak rooster crawler are good. if you dont care about drag brakes the choices get opened some more, and if you dont plan on ever running lipo there are some good cheap speed controllers.

aparently the new update to the castle sidewinder gives it quite good drag brakes. the tekin fxr is also very good in the drag brake department, however they seem well known for their failures. the novak rooster crawler seems to be very touchy with drag brake. myself, id recommend the sidewinder, thats what im looking at. its around $100 canadian.

the sidewinder is a good esc but the fxr has better brakeing. the fxr is right at $100 plus it is smaller than the sidewinder. i use the sidewinder in my comp rig but i have some holmes pro hand wound 30t motors which have great breakeing already so it works fine. i have an tekin fxr on the way so ican put in my scaler so can run the stock motor and still have some brakeing.

I just purchased a SCX10TR and even befor I ran it i put in a waterprood XL5 and the waterproof servo. Had a great time "Trailin" in the snow. I'm going to love this rig.

Try the holmes hobbies torque master it's the best out there imo.
