I run a 3s lipo on my fxr's and have not had any problems with it I also run the 55 turn motor.

Guess it depends on how hard you run them, if you go with an FXR and run 3s its also recommended to run an external bec.

With the CC Sidewinder, would I still need a BEC?

I have ran my sidewinder with and without an external bec but I think it is recommended especialy if you have a high torque servo.
