where can you buy a GD-600?

how 'bout just make one? big gear on one end driven by the motor pinion... other side of that big gear shaft is an output pinion similar in size to the motor pinion--- right?

long as you got a shaft, 2 smaller pinions, bigger gear for the middle, and 2 plates with spacers (could custom cut them) to hold it all together, wouldn't that do the trick?

some way to mount it of course too.

are GD-600's hard to find?

Try it. Anything is worth a try. You seem to have the basic idea. Tower Hobbies has the GD 600 for 12.99. Here is the link.

I do think it may be just a bit cheaper to buy.

its cheaper and easier to buy... but if you build your own reduction box you could mate a 72 tooth spur to a 8 tooth pinion and get some crazy gear reduction out of it... i might end up doing it for my custom tranny build. if your going to use the GD-600 check out the thread in the general crawlers how to section...

i'll check that thread out. i will probably just go with the GD-600. you get pretty decent reduction out of it, no?

just in case i don't see the info in the how to thread, whats the output shaft size. i have 3.2mm shaft diameter 10t pinions to use-- will that work?

F-it.... looks like i'll be makin' my own. thanks for the tip. 'how to' tells me that the shaft is 3/16. too much of a PITA for me to work with a shaft that size. I want the 1/8th output shaft for my pinions. i don't have a drill press to resize a pinion, nor a lathe to turn down a shaft.

i'll take the 1/8th shaft from an old brushless motor that i have that will never get used again.

you either need i believe a 5mm pinion or to turn it down

well wait....

i have 5mm pinions? will they work? because i saw 3/16 for shaft output in the 'how to' thread--- that would really not fit exactly for 5mm i don't think?

are you talking 5mm pinion with some sort of bushing or collar to take up the difference in space?

if its as simple as slap on a 5mm pinion--- that i can do easily.

after exploring last night, the 3.17mm shaft i have will not work. its too short for how i need it.

thanks,

you guys are GREAT! looks like it is a 5mm shaft. that solves all the probs....

hobby lobby has as small as 13t 5mm diameter pinions in 48 pitch (well actually i think they're .5 modules-- but .5 modules and 48 pitch are interchangeable for all intents and purposes).....

in which case i'll go 10t pinion on the brushless motor 100kv with the GD600 and a 5mm 13t output should really SLLOOOWWW down my PTI.

thanks again for the info and links!!!

your runtime will go up too, i have a gd600 with a 9t pinion and the moab XLs on a 9-10lb truck and i get 40 min of runtime with 20's and a lathe motor...
