Default Do I need a BEC?

I have searched a few different ways but could not find a straight forward answer to my question so here goes......

I am running a CC MM with 3s lipo (1600mah) on a AX-10 based rig with a DX3S and a super high torque steering servo and a Novak 45t (no other electronics other than spectrum receiver). My issue is that it just cuts out after about 5 minutes of crawling, I lose throttle and steering. Neither the motor or esc get warm to the touch, the servo does get warm but not out of the ordinary. I can unplug the battery then plug it back in and get a couple more minutes of crawl time until it cuts out again. When I run a 2s, I have no issues at all (except lack of wheel speed....duh.) MM is set to auto-lipo with new firmware installed.

I assume I need a BEC from all the reading I have done here but everyone just says to get a BEC, they don't seem to tell me what the symptoms would be if you need one but do not have one. SO, that said, when the rig is working I am very happy with motor power and my steering servo has enough power to break rod ends if I pinch a tire and try to turn.

Would a BEC keep my crawler from dieing after a few minutes of run time on a 3s?

So the symptoms a rig that needs a BEC will show are the same as what I am having, correct?

Awesome, you guys are the best. I just spoke to Hobby Hangar (my LHS) and they say they have them in stock so I'll be up and running (3s) again tonight.

Thanks again

The BEC will still allow you reciver and steering to work. If you MMESC still cuts out (which it should not) after the BEC, then there is something going on with instide the MM
