Please help me i keep stripping out the idler gear in my tranny. I have had plastic and metal and no mattter what it breaks and the crazy part is its in my wife's truck and she's not as wide open as me and she always breaks it. The motor is a velenion brushless with 2s 25c battery with 2.2 flat irons and 87t spur 18t pinion, any help would be great

I would try running an aluminum Transmission case, that should help it to not flex under power

Looks like a slipper might help.

I wouldn't waste money on an aluminum case. Just buy a new plastic one, yours could be warped or the gear may not be going in straight if the bearings aren't set correctly either.

This is a stab in the dark, but I'm thinking the problem might be in your tranny case. It sounds like something got tweaked in there, or it has a manufacturing defect that is causing the gears to not mesh correctly.

X2 Look at the case/shafts/bearings. That is alot of motor/gearing but the axial trans is pretty strong. If all else fails there is always alum case & rrp gears.

Idk, I have never broke a gear in my trans, stock or metal, even with the same setup, but on 3s, and you know I'm not easy on mine.

The stock plastic case is probably warping under load. Try a metal case like the VP and/or a slupper clutch

slipper is a must,if your running a brushless.

when you reassemble the case, how tight do you tighten everything down?

me and ashton have discussed this,if you tighten 1 screw more than the other 2, you'll get a wobble in your gears, which would mean one side of the gear is touching and the otherside is just barely there, and if you hit the throttle when its on that weak wobble(especially with the veli)
BAM!-stripped or broken gear.

you can spin your spur and check and see if you have the "wobbles".
just go thru the screws to see which one is causing the wobble.

fixed my problem.
hope it helps.

GH also makes an aluminum tranny case. I have used their products in my slash and revo with great success.
I will probably be picking up a GH tranny as well. Just need to try out might crawler before I start making anymore changes.

I ran the GH case without problems (did have to do a little filing to get the hurtz dig to fit right) before the Vanquish case came out.

i use to strip the same gear alll the time. i still run the stock case with no issues, and boy do i run it hard lol. the problem is those stupid plastic gears which cant take the load try these.
http://www.robinsonracing.com/catalog/scorpion.html i run them with my 45t brushed motor and my other buddy runs them on his novak goat brushless, not a single issue since we switched. my worst problem now is i keep breaking the damn drive shaft. time to upgrade lol
