Well, less maintenance and the sensored systems give great low throttle control.

However, I still prefer brushed motors for most of my crawlers.

Yeah, they most certainly can be....but, IMO, only if you get a high quality handwound brushed motor.

Brushless are also quite a bit more efficient.

I run brushed because they are cheaper than sensored brushless . Non sensored brushless motors are too twitchy on the bottom end for me . Both have benefits but I like to run by the river and BL doesnt stand up to water . I had a rock racer at one time and I ran BL in it for the speed and runtime . A good BL is hard to beat but , IMO , a good brushed motor cant be beat .

I've got two 55t Novak brushed motors on my Berg. If your building a MOA stick with brushed cause its cheaper. Friend of mine has a brushless on his LOSI Comp. I plan on getting two good hand wound brushed motors when I rebuild my truck over the winter.

I don't think brushed motors will ever dissapear...I like brushed over brushless because for this type of hobby (crawling) you don't need much speed out of a motor. So brushed does fine.

I've been hearing guys say that for years.....

Depending on set up and driving style, either can work extremely well. Brushed motors are cheap and if taken care of properly, they can last for years. The 35t's in my Berg are beat all to crap and I've never fooled with them other than throwing new brushes in them. Going on 3 years old and they are still kickin just fine.

Brushed motors suit me just fine for now. I'm running a 20t Holmes Hobbies handwound in my rock racer. It crawls great and will go fast enough for me. If/when that motor dies, I may try one of the newer brushless set up's out there.

I preferred my old brushed set up over my current Brushless set up for power reasons. But i really like the smoothness and reliability of my brushless. But it also depends on what your using it for.

I think I'll personally go back to a brushed setup and put the brushless in my stampede, in my opinion brushless is for going fast, brushed is great for a budget and seems to work better for crawlers.

just my .02
That low end twitching is called cogging. An unsensored brushless motor will do that. That's why people use sensored brushless motors in crawlers.
I tried my valenium unsensored brushless system from my traxxas with the same results. Lots of cogging at low end.

when guys only used one esc for the moa rigs, brushed was your only option.
now with the trend leaning to 4ch with 2 esc's. a good quality sensered brushless is very viable.

the only drawback I think will be weight, and water hazards.
a sensered system has more wieght,its not much,but its there,and its x2.
and sensered systems on the market now, dont like water. I think that will change very soon though. we will continue to see more and more bl systems making thier way into crawling.

Before the end of the year, I will debut not one, but two new brushed motors.....both designed specifically for crawling.

Comm sticks are junk....find a cheap lathe for sale (check classifieds on RCtech.net or Hobbytalk.com or your local track)....you can pick them up CHEAP....cutting the comm is easy and fast...

If you really want a comm stick, I am sure racers edge still makes one....but you can make one out of an eraser....just cut it down....same thing.

For all the proponents of brushless, they don't seem to do very well in all these big events.....

I agree 100%. If someone makes a good small sensored ESC, that would be a huge +.

Thats only because of the ratio of people running them. If you take away MOA, then a brushless would be in almost every winning rig (dont flame me, im bias in assuming the losi drivers would win every comp) Sorry i should specify sensored brushless.

Have ya seen a tekin rs? Great small sensored esc!

I would love to run a dual brushless set up in my moa comp rig! But the fact is even the best senored systems still clog and aren't as smooth as a brushed system at startup or down low. Losis get away with it because of the super low geared worms. Plus at around $300 each that is 600+ bucks in motors and esc! In a trail/basher that doesn't see water, brushless is waaaayyy Kooool!
