| want to build a chassis, help!
hi all, i want to have a go at making my own chassis for my clod axles. just wondering if anyone has some ideas on what to look out for and what not to do. i want a four link set up. i had a go at one before but it was basic and although i got about 100 degrees of articulation it had a lot of torque twist and was basically sh*t. so back to the drawing board.cheers

Building something like the "NN" chassis would be pretty simple and that chassis works killer for a comp Clod! Or you could do something like the "Stick" or "Pimpcane" for a few bucks at your local hardware store. Both of them are super easy to make. The Stick chassis uses lower links and 2 shocks where as the Pimpcane is just a piece of aluminum channel. Look in the Clod forum and you can get some good ideas.

Torque twist with clod axles?! It's usually with shafties (without worm gears!) you get that - or so I thought! What exactly was happening?

well its not really TT, its more the rear axle pushing the chassis up when the front is up against an object.also when i am full lock turning to one side the two inside wheels would come closer together(i have 4ws) and push the chassis up and over towards the opisite side. the rear would push the front inside wheel up and flip it over

Also, 100 degrees of flex is WAY to much! That much flex will be bad for you! And I can say I've never had torque twist with any of my Clods. I don't know how you can have any really?

Do you have a pic of that set up, it might help us see what's going wrong?

i dont have pics at the moment.i made something that resembles the NN chassis and worked out my shocks were in the wrong place, i had them mounted in the same place as my top links. the amount of articulation i had has been reduced to just under 90 degrees so now i think i have my problem sorted ill get some pics up soon

It sounds like you had too much anti-squat in the rear. That can cause the rear tires to try and come down and around to the front. Raise your upper links up at the frame end. Also search for threads on anti-squat and suspension geometry.
