Default Buying First rig couple questions

I am pretty set on an Axial SCX10 TR, I dont have any dealers near me, I dont know if it is ok to ask for dealer recomendations, I didnt see anything about it in the rules. Is the SCX10 TR a tough build? Howl long does it take on average? from what I have seen it looks like all I need is batteries off the bat to start running it, and there appear to be tons of upgrades and parts available, are there any MUSTs to upgrade off the bat?

Thanks in advance, Ryan

It took me maybe 2-3 days to build and paint if you buy the kit. You will also need your own electronics (radio system, motor, battery). Still knowing how your rig comes together will better help you when something breaks or gets clogged with dirt/mud.

The RTR version you are correct you just need batteries for the radio and rig. But the gearing on the RTR is 20/87 which to me is a bit too high. The kit form is geared 14/87 which has more torque.

The TR version is RTR. That stands for Trail Ready. Thats the one I bought. I just replaced the electronics with my own stuff and replaced the plastic links with aluminum ones and poof, never looked back it's then Pretty much a Kit version but the lights are already installed on the TR version. Then turned around and sold the stock electronics and used the 40-50 bucks on some upgrades.

Jkelley, thanks, I hadnt gotten that far yet, I think I will have the gearing reduced to 14/87 off the bat, is there anything else that is a recomended right away replacement? I hear these things are pretty tough out of the box.

Both my sons have the TR. They are tough and need very few upgrades to a competitive Scalar.

I would get a good Lipo and a new ESC. I run the Rooster Crawler ESC for my kids. It works good on a 2 cell Lipo and does't need an external BEC to run the servo. The Lipo is a 5000mah and runs for hours before needing charged again

Also, I would drill holes in the wheels to let the air in and out when crawling. And I would add about 3oz of lead to the front wheels.

For any other upgrades, I would look around in the AX10 and SCX10 sections

RPP has it for the cheapest price it looks like:

I am sure you can dig up a coupon code or sign up for their enewsletter and when you get one it will usually include a coupon in it.
