Default exceed max torque or mad crawler??

I'm a total newbie when it comes to RC stuff....I'm wanting to get my son a crawler and I'm thinking of either the 1/8th Exceed max torque or the 1/10th mad crawler. I read that the max torque has metal gears where the mad crawler has plastic. the metal sounds better to me. Also as far as upgrades which is better to work with. I was wondering what you guys' opinions are. Thanks

I'd go w/ this one.

For $125.00 shipped RTR w/ 2.4 it's a good deal. Plus as your son improves, it can be upgraded w/ the higher quality Axial upgrades.

Ive had a lot of fun and pretty good luck with my Mad Crawler. You can get metal gears for the axle pretty easily!

The question is do you plan of doing any comps. The Mad crawlers axles are to wide for the 2.2 class the two crawlers share the same axle..and the Mad torque Tires are to small for the Super class.. I have the Torque.. I think I've spent more time moding it then crawling.. Either rig is a good starting point.. but with some cheap mods either can climb like crazy.. and they are durable and replacement parrts are fairly cheap
